Kind of a weird request, but we are getting an Orange Spot Filefish tomorrow and want the greatest chance of survival. We have spent quite a few days reading how aquarists have the highest success rate and believe we can replicate it quite easily. We will train him to eat a variety of frozen foods, however, at first, we would like a few acroporas for him to munch on if needed. id put my ice fire in there, but that would be one expensive meal. So we are looking for any browned out frags or colonies that you would like to sell or even coral skeleton.

Wish us the best and we will keep this updated so hopefully more people can keep these in captivity. We have been in touch with someone who even has great success with them spawning and raising CB Orange Spot Filefish.

Spawning and raising them? No WAY! That's awesome. Those guys are super neat looking.

Jarrett, if anyone can keep them alive it would be you and Nikki! I don't have any browned out ones but I'd donate my dying Pocillopora to you guys. I love it but my tank has too many nutrients for it to thrive. It's not teeny but not huge either. Maybe an inch and a half across? Maybe two?

When I kept mine it wouldn't eat anything other than acros. Slimers seem to be the acro of choice. I can probably spare some Mille branches but you'll need skeletons to transition to packaged food soon. Don't order them until you've got everything ready because the clock starts when they arrive. Good luck and read the article in coral magazine if u haven't

Too funny! Any skeletons would be greatly appreciated. A quick update. Acclimated well and went into the 30 gallon cube. Put some live mysis in there and also there is an abundance of copedods etc in that tank. Last night placed some acros, a kenya tree, a rusty gorgonian and a snail that has quite a bit of hair algae growing on him in the tank. While watching, he hadn't shown any interest in the acros (a variety) but did seem to munch on the hair algae a little bit and is trying to figure out how to eat the kenya tree. His breathing is quite fast, but ive read this is normal especially after stressful situations. Hopefully it will calm today and will be trying a variety of foods throughout the day. Will keep all updated.

I have a good size kenya tree if you want. It takes up to much room in my tank and since ive upgraded my lights im looking for better corals.

Its been a while since I posted here, but excellent news!...He is now eating a variety of frozen foods. Never once touched an acro even though he had a wide variety of them at the time. Seemed to enjoy some hair algae, pods, and now frozen!

I guess I need to get another photobucket account to post some pics...plus im pretty sure Mel is none to pleased as she hasn't seen any of the promised pics of the flame wrasses yet. I guess Ill start working on that...

Yeah...there's a remote possibility that I might be getting into wrasses a little bit.

What do we know about Christmas Wrasses? Reef safe? Specimen specific?

Most wrasses in the Halichoeres genus are reef safe and make for great scavengers. If your looking for color the Australian Male Melanarus are amazing. check out the radiants as well.

hmm I dont know some of the bigger wrasses in this family will pick at shrimp Like Mr Randy said but I doubt they would ever get a chance to eats him.
