Any consequences from running a tank at a temp. of 73F?

Are there any effects from maintaining a tank at this temperature of 73F. There may and may not be, not sure though. I think most people maintain their tanks at about 83F-86F. My tank consist of SPS and some softies. TIA

I think 83-86 is a little on the warm side. I think you will find most people run their tanks aroun 76-80. Honestly, I think you will be fine running it at 73 degrees.

Algae will still grow at that temp. My tank runs at 78-79 in the summer, 74-76 in the winter. I've still had my share of nuisance algae and my chaeto grows well too (the chaeto is actually in the basement so the temp there is a little lower).

My lfs (knows pretty near everything) says 75-80 is good. I think especially if one is a beginner like me, he may want to stay away from the extreems. I know he keeps his big tank (600 gal or more?) around 70 just to slow down the collective metabolism. Guess it is a little easier to maintain for him? But at that temp, if things drop 3 or 4 degrees, he might be in for a whippin.

slower growth. the reccomended temp range is 76-84...
This is quite a wide range and is very true. Problems with temp are not usually the exact temp but fluctuations in the temp. Having a tank that "STAYS" at any temp within this range is fine. Having a tank that changes too much is not good.

At a low temp like 73f, your calcium and SG will be a lot lower than maintaining the temperature at 80(which it will be higher) if all other chemistry is right.
