Any DAN members out there?

Hey all, I've noticed DAN being mention in a thread or two so obviously there are a few people out there taking advantage of their services. Anyone check out the cover of the new Alert Diver? Sweet pic of a couple Mandarins! Haven't read it yet, just got it in the mail but was struck by the pic.

DAN member too, $22k saved on a trip to deco after a drysuit malfunction, diving without them is crazy!

Love the cover :)

DAN member, never know when or where you might need the help. I carry it on dive trips and when I travel abroad as it also has benefits for non-diving injuries as well.

Cover pics is really cool.

The mag says it was Stephen Fink off the coast of Dumaguete in the Philippines. Sounds like a pretty sweet spot to dive. There's also a very cool vid at the bottom of this page of ghost pipefish if any of you had not followed the smartphone app in the corner.

And here's a pic of a little friend we met the other day just off SaltSpring Island on the east side of Vancouver Island. He was maybe the size of a grapefruit, very cute.

and a couple of a decent size jelly we ran across too:

As I near 500 logged dives, there is one thing I can say for certain: The sting of the hit to the wallet of a DAN membership is FAR outweighed by the knowledge that (1) the money goes to diving medicine research; and (2) an unforeseen emergency evac and chamber ride won't bankrupt my family.

+1. I dive and spearfish beyond recreational limits. Without DAN insurance, I would be screwed, although I haven't had to use it yet THANK GOD. Their group rates on Life Insurance are really good too. If you are an avid diver such as myself, you quickly find what a detriment that can be when you apply for Life Insurance.:sad1:

If you don't mind me piggy backing on your post.

I am also a long time DAN member but was curious as to what option people choose for their membership and why?

Member only?
Member with Standard, Master or Preferred insurance?

What would you say is the advantage to add the insurance and if you did which one did you choice and why?

My families renewel is coming up at the end of November and I am wondering if I am missing something?

I most certainly don't mind. Especially since you raised some interesting questions that I'd love to hear the answers to myself! I've been a DAN member for almost 20 years, but would you believe I'm not exactly sure which policy I have. Being self employed I have another suplimental insurance policy that covers me and my family, and I use DAN for my diving coverage. I look forward to hearing what others say.

As a tech diver, I get the preferred plan. If you dive deeper than standard recreational limits you need at least the master plan to be covered for depth. I have never needed it, but I have watched a friend use it and think anyone who dives without it is being foolish.

I've been a member of DAN for many, many years. I don't dive that often or that deep anymore, but I spend a lot of time in the Caribbean and Central America, and do some scuba diving on every trip. My incomparably trusty 40 year old Scubapro Mark V always travels with me, along with my DAN card. I have the preferred level of coverage. It's not very expensive, considering what emergency evacuations cost. I've never used the insurance, but I have used the excellent technical advice and information they provide. It's great insurance, especially for a traveling diver. In an emergency these people really know what they are doing. They are the best, even though they have gotten a bit too involved with marketing stuff these last few years.

Stephen Frink actually. A professional UW photographer and instructor. Yes, the Philippines is a cool place to dive, especially for critters.

DAN member. They recently paid for my dental work when I had an accident in Honduras and needed a root canal. Thankfully the only use thus far.
