Does anyone currently have one alive in captivity? Or any past experience or pictures of one in captivity. I've always wanted one of these since I began keeping saltwater fish. It looks like LiveAquaria is now offering them for sale.

I'm interested too, I stopped by the LFS the other day and they had 3 of these guys in. I did a little research and from what i've read they are sps and clam nippers but are relatively hardy.

as far as nipping, they fall in the same category as some regal angels and blue face angels. I've had pretty good luck with both in a mixed reef tank. it's a hit or miss situation with large angels. I like this fish enough to give it a try.

Actually they're not that hardy and you need to be careful and get a good one as most come in bad condition. They are known to not eat and shouldn't be place with other aggressive angels in the same tank.

It's usually a very expensive angel that doesn't show up that often. I'm not sure I would mail order this fish as you probably would want to see it first in the store and make sure it's eating and doing good.

i'm not too worried about ordering from LiveAquaria. They quarantine thier livestock for two weeks before putting them online for sale. They also guarantee them for 14 days from shipping. The order is fully refundable if the fish doesn't make it through the two week period and the shippng was free. So how was your experience with this fish? Do you have any photos?

 I have wanted one of those for awhile but you just never see them...They are supposed to be mild mannered and don't get quite as big as other Angels. Dang it!!!! I have a Blueface now, which I love, but I did so want a Blueline:(

I don't have any photo but my experiences has been when they've come into LFS. Most haven't arrived in good conditions while the ones that have usually haven't eaten at all or just a little. The usually haven't faired well and after a # of weeks they're usually very thin and on their last leg. They're very shy and even placed with non-aggressive fish didn't seem to do very well.

Even with the 2 week guarantee I would still want to check out the fish before I buy it and make sure it's in good condition as the fish could last for over 2 weeks and then die. If possible I would try and find one that has been at a place for awhile as there is a better chance it will make it.

well, the order was placed last night already. If the fish is available and is in good health, they should ship out today. I'll post pictures and probably keep it seperated from the rest of the fish for a while during the acclimating proccess. I hope I get a nice and healthy one.

I ordered one today, 4/13, myself from LiveAquaria. I had one last year that was just gorgeous. I lost it to an aquascaping accident last year. I bought it from JustRareFish.com along with a Chrysurus juvi angel. It did not bother any of it's tankmates or inverts. It was about 5" when I received it. They grow to about 9" in the wild.

Here is a pic of my previous Blueline I put in the Photo Gallery at JustRareFish.com.

There is also a video of the same fish in the Photo Gallery. Here is the link, Photo Gallery.

t0mmy108, I called in my order this morning and they still had the mediums available. So you should have one on the way. I was also "assured" they were eating.

sweet. I like the video. I always wondered if the colors in all these photos were accurate. your picture is awsome. So would you say that your old blue line was a female? I read that they have bolder lines than males.

Yes, I would say I had a female. Not because of the bolder colors. I have read the males have a bluer face. It had some of the prettiest color. The pic doesn't do it justice.

i just got an email from Liveaquaria saying that they ran out of stock and won't be shipping my fish out. oh well. I'll try again next time.

It's a pretty rare fish I guess they didn't have that many probably to start with. Tough lucky but some times things work out for a reason.

I have not received that email. I did place my order over the phone. The lady taking the order verified it was in stock, as well as an Orange Spotted Blenny. My fish are suppose to be delivered on Saturday. The customer service rep also said I will receive an email Friday evening with the shipment tracking number. I will wait and see if it comes.

JustRareFish.com has a couple. The medium is $225, and $250 for the large. MarineCenter.com also has one or two for $275. I purchased my first one, as well as my Chrysurus, from JustRareFish. They arrived in great shape.
