Any experience with Ventralis Anthias?

i followed the 1 male to multiple females rule. Or you can just go with 20 females. :) One is bound to take the lead.

I've broken that rule before and added multiple males. The less dominant males just changed colors and became females after losing to the supermale.

i only found them from the breeder in Hawaii. The wholesalers never seem to have any. Is there any other place besides the Hawaiian farm bred and themarinecenter?

Tom, are they still with you? I now have the opportunity to get some and I do like them alot.

this time I just used what was available. I used some fresh peeled gulf shrimp, fresh salmon, frozen krill, frozen freshwater mysis shrimp, frozen squid, mussels, formula one pellets, nori and fresh minced garlic. Blended it into a mush and frozen in sheets.
Thanks!

sorry, haven't been on the boards for a while.
Unfortunately, I lost the anthias and all my wrasse except for three. some kind of bacteria started taking out all the fish. It started when aiptasia got a foot hold in my system. there would be open sores on the sides of the fish and then ich would attack. I since put on a 40 watt UV and have run it for about three weeks. So far, no more deaths. I still haven't figured out what it was.

The other anthias in the photo is a male lyretail.

How awful - sorry to hear it. :(
Thanks for the reply on the male lyretail.
As they say bad things can happen so fast in a reef.

That open sore thing sounds like that bacteria that's similar to tuberculosis. A least if it's not a parasite you probably have it contained.

Hello Tommy, I'm sorry to hear about your losses.

BTW, I didn't know that the male could actually turn back into a female. Where did you read that from?

Thanks,
Raymond
