Hi to All!

I will be going down to the Gulf Coast - North Port area and wanted to know of any good collection places with a license of course.

I would greatly appreciate the input from all in this forum!

Will be there in August.

I was thinking Zoos, Ricordias, Yumas, Blennies, Gobies.

I have no boat, I was thinking more like along the shore or freef area near mangroves. Can you suggest any places that rent themselves for this?

I dont know for sure but I think you need a fishing license for catching fish...and there are some pretty specific rules as to how you catch them and how many.

Corals are protected. Dont take them. It was about Feb. when a store owner from middle usa came to the keys to collect for his store. I think he got some pound him in the but time.

"Dude I killed 3 people, what are you in for?" "I took some pretty corals." Yea he had better keep that to himself.

I dunno of any collection sites in the north gulf side, this forum is for South florida (east coast), Ricordias and Zoanthids are mostly in the keys area and they have some heavy collection regulations. Yumas are non existent you will need to go to the Pacific coast for them.
Inform yourself well before collecting anything as you could land with heavy legal problems if you picked up the wrong thing.
Also keep in mind that transporting them back to NJ will be very difficult now that you can't carry on no liquids into the plane.

Tperk,

Thanks for the info..........whew, I could have been a criminal before I was 18. I hope the statute of limitations has run out.

Thank you all!!!

I went to the site listed and have a printed copy of species and requirements. As far as transportation, I will be driving back with water containers and battery operated pumps.

I didn't know Yumas were non-existent in Florida. Thanks for info.
I guess I will need to visit the Keys soon.

do it before your 18 your record gets wiped clean
and if you get caught you probably would go to juvi not A$$ rape prison

the problem with the keys is that there is almost no soft coral, which the only kind you can harvest. if your looking for fish on the other hand, i know that just about any healthy section of reef will have a nice assortment of wrasses, angels, tangs, butterflyfishes, and others.

ive been spearfishing out of my house in key largo for the past 2 months and i cant believe how many huge french and queen angels and butterflyfishes i have seen and wanted so bad, but they are usually very large adults. the wrasses on the other hand have been small, usually under 3". i will be researching more on them after i snap some pics and get them id'ed to see if they will be good for a tank. oh and by the way, they all seem to be verryyy curious and easy to approach, so catching them with a net may not be very hard. if it turns out to be, i may invest in a slurp gun

How much is a slurp gun and were can I purchase one?

Will be going down to Gulf Coast this August. I am interested in blennies and gobies.
