Any good Stores around Pasadena

Wait Jamie1210 did you said 321 W Garvey Monterey ?

I got 1043 W. Foothill Blvd. Upland 91786 does anybody know that store it is called Total tropical fish ?

I think Steve is awsome and when I buy from LFS it is always his place that I drive to, and it's a 35 min drive back when I used to live in Diamond Bar. I've bought countless corals there including two orange/red seahorses there recently and I have to say the stock is excellent. Of course I have bought fishes there and they would die in my tank every once in a while but hey which LFS does not sell fishes that die later in our tanks? Steve treats me pretty well but then maybe it's because I've been going there for years and years.

i've been going there for years also. i know steve pretty well after all these years and was curious on why you guys might think he's a PIA to deal with? is it b/c he doesn't say much? doesn't smile? well..after all these years, i dont' think i've really seen him smile or say much to me either. haha.

but once you get to know him, he's a pretty cool guy. he does get some of the nicer stuff that you usually don't see and if you don't see what you're looking for, you can ask him and he'll try to get it next time.

PTF is the only place i go to since all the places people like to go to are always in the OC area and don't even get me started on that Monrovia Fish store...but like all stores there are good stuff and bad stuff. it's up to you to find the good stuff.

I wasn't even sure what the guys name was so now I know. I will try my best to be on his good side and see if I can get the help I need. He has a big store and it must be quite hard to take care with only 3 people that I saw working. I guess I was looking for a friendlier approach considering I go there often. May be by time we will get used to each other.

About the fish and the coral though was I wrong to say the health of them is not that good. I saw few other people having similar problems. But that also related to the size of the store and the people working in.

Anyway as I said I did not want to start an argument about PTF or Steve in person I just wanted to know if there are any other stores you would recommend.

Thanks for all who tried to help hope we will meet sometime in the store.

Pasadena Tropical Fish is a good spot. The key with them is to go frequently. Steve has been in the buisness for 20 years, he sells a lot of fish/corals....the good stuff gets snapped up quick.
PTF is close to my gym, so I stop buy whenever I go for a workout....usually 4x a week. My most recent score was a large challice coral which has watermellon coloring, with bright alien eyes. I paid 80 bucks for a colony larger than my fist. Most others would sell quarter size frags of this thing for 80 bucks.

marcrothschild-nice looking tank man.
threadstarter:
you can try trop reef oasis in alhambra, passion of the sea 10 miles east of pasadena.
its kinda hit/miss at ptf.

Ok I been to total fish and pets today and agree that I would prefer PTF over it. It is another small store that is very hard to walk around especially with a 2 years old. His prices are quite good but those cramped tanks made me go out of the store without looking too much. I was interested in few fish but I am not sure yet. I bought a cleaner and introduced it to the tank we will see if it was my fault or the one I bought from PTF was doomed.

Cagdas, sorry, it's called "total fish and pets" ... really friendly guy, and, like i said, defintely go on a Sunday late afternoon (they close at 6:30), really good w/prices (don't be afraid to haggle!) hope this helps, and good luck on your search :)

Thanks Jamie I agree the guy is very friendly I might go again there were few dead fish in the tanks I saw two that I was interested but want to try first.

fc.pride do you have address for those stores. I might check them.

So nobody know the Total tropical fish store I mentioned I might go there this weekend.

Thanks for all the help guys.

trop reef oasis is in alhambra. do a search. hes got some nice frags.
passionof the sea is in rowland heights. again do a search on this forum or google.
both should be worth a visit. havent been into acquiring lately, just maintaining, so havent been anywhere for a long time.

tropical reef oasis? wow, i've lived in alhambra for awhile now, and I've never even heard of it! where have i been ...

Since you are willing to drive, I'd suggest checking out Mark's Tropical Fish in Studio City (couple of other stores along Ventura as well) and also Vivid Aquariums in Canoga Park. Not really that far from you on the 210/134 during non-peak traffic hours.

626-284-2607
1117 E. main st. suite 102
his name is frank. he's a cool guy. his hours are usually from 6-9pm since i think he has another job.

passion of the sea is actually a little further than 10 miles. I'd say about 20 miles or so. From Pasadena you'll want to take 210 to the 605 and then 60e. It is located in Rowland Heights off of Nogales. If you're in the area there's also Angels Aquarium and Rare fish and reptiles both are on Nogales.

Nice tons of places to go I thought there should be but could not found all. I will try to check them soon.

Better call Frank before you go or email him ahead of time to let him know that you are stopping by. He has been extremely busy and he goes on trips a lot, so he doesn't always keep strict business hours. HTH
