I am struggling with removing the DSB to get more space for the SPS as my tank is only 18" tall. I need some good arguments to convince me. Could you show me some good threads about this topic? Or you are kind enough to repeat once more there.
I have one idea which won't help much. Don't do it while fish or inverts are in the tank. From what I've heard everything released from the lower layers would pretty much crash your tank.

Yeah DON'T DO IT with anything in your tank, my tank crashed about a week ago because something stirred up my sand and the CO2 and phosphates that were released in my tank made me lose almost every single SPS i own.
Depending on how old your tank is and how filled the rocks are.you may pull the DSB then look good for alittle while, intill the rocks start leaching and you lose everything from that.
been there done that
But yes remove all animals from the tank before pulling the Dsb.
If your rocks/tank are more than a year old i would look up rock cooking and try that intill the rocks are done shedding.
As far as an artical, every tank is gonna react differently. Some seem to go BB with out a problem, some seem ok and then the problems start a month down the road.
