Any thoughts? I think that it is a goner. I know that they close up and don't open for awhile..but I don't know about this.

Here are my test results from last week. I will be doing test later on this evening again.

Thank you in advance.

Leathers can remain closed for really long times. If it is really dying it will "melt" in a few days, it will be very noticeable.

I have had a leather stay closed for over 3 months and I never found out why.

Just give it time unless it looks as if it's deteriorating.

Have you moved it recently or done any changes to your system?

I just moved it the other day.
I am running 2 tunze 6045's and have just added 2 Hydro Koralia Pump 4's to the tank. I have 2 penductors on the overflow..so when I moved things around the toad fell over. So I picked it up and turned it the other way for now.

What do you think the blotches are? Anything to be concerned about?

Thanks

It is on a very small piece of something...came from the lfs that way. I stuck it in the sand...and it grew and grew...to the size it is now...

Personally, i'd move it on another piece of rock that is bigger so that it can spread out on the rock. It looks like its kinda...well, i dont know the word, but it looks like it should be on a bigger piece of rock lol.

...so what do I do...cut it from the piece that it is on...or just put it on another piece of rock?

What kind of glue would you recommend?

Thanks in advance

Cyanocrylate (ie superglue)

The gel works best.

Even better, use superglue AND some epoxy.

1) Get the "new" rock ready
2) Mix the epoxy and roll into a ball
3) Take the toad out of the water and dry the bottom with a towel
4) Put some superglue on one side of teh Epoxy
5) Smoosh the epoxy slightly onto the base of the toad (actually the rock that is is attachef to)
6) Put superglue on the other side of the epoxy
7) Lightly smoosh the new rock into the epoxy
8) Wait about 30 seconds and put back in tank.

Great...I have the epoxy..but have not been successful it getting it to stick...didn't think about using the superglue too.

So jefathome..you too would recommend that I put it on a new piece of rubble?

I will try to get some rubble this weekend and give it a try.

Does anybody have any thoughts on the white stuff on the toad?

ya what jeff said...just use the stuff on the rock that its on tho, and not the actual leather. I dont think leathers like superglue at all and it wouldnt work on the actual coral itself anyways i dont think.

Then the leather will eventually grow around that rock that its on and will have more of a base. I think that the sand is getting over the base and its not letting it grow on the rock any more. I'm not sure thats whats causing it to get all those spots like that, but i spose it could be.... I guess it would be something like since it cant grow anymore, its getting stressed?

Sorry... Pics are blocked by firewalls here at work.

To answer your other question though, there is no need to put it on a rock unless you cannot get it to stand up without one.

If it is constantly leaning on the sand, another coral, or gets moved around then yes, attach it. I'm not sure there is any biological reason that it has to be on a rock though.

The Epoxy doesn't stick too well, and the superglue cannot mold to the shape of whatever you are sticking it to. Using both give you the best of both. Kinda like an Epoxy Sandwich. MMmmmm Epoxy.... Arrgghhh.
;)

Thanks jefathome...if you could look at the pictures later on and let me know your thoughts on the toad...it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Oh.. one other piece of advice.
I had a toad that wasn't opening, and I noticed some little "threads" coming out of it. I belive they were some sort of spaghetti worm. I did a freshwater dip, Iodine dip, dug into it with scissors and Q-tips dipped in pure Iodine, and some other stuff.. Toad survived it ALL and opened up a few days later. Believe me, these things can take a BEATING. Within about 8 months, it had gone from basball size to well over a foot across.
Traded it for a nice Exquisite wrasse. The wrasse jumped and the LFS had a power failure which killed the toad.
:(

Circle of life I guess. ;)

Anybody else have any ideas...if not...I guess I wait it out.

Just don't know when to pull it out..cause it's dead!

Give it an iodine dip. That will help if it a bacterial problem. I tend to agree with most of the comments here. It is really hard to kill a toadstool. I just found one that has been growing in the dark behind my rocks for about a year. I thought it was a goner long ago.
