Any hints on getting photos of magenta?

Hey that looks pretty darn good! It dismays me that the pink isn't supposed to be there...I made two separate layers just to accent the pink in the middle of the back. hahahaha back to the drawing board for me. I think those results are excellent for more or less a complete RAW conversion. The less work you have to do the better because we aren't necessarily editing this photo but all the other Royal Gramma photos you might take in the future/have taken in the past. You aren't going to want to spend an hour on each one. Is the pink supposed to be more of a red? I was also making an effort for a hint of pink in the face of the fish itself. Should that be a deeper purple? You have to be my seeing eye dog because I am blind.

Well, I really need to look at the fish again, but lights went out about 40 minutes ago. From what I recall, mine is still not quite the color. It's more of a darker purple but with red undertones instead of the pink undertones. If that makes sense.

Live Aquaria's version is better, but not as vivid as the fish.

Of course, that all depends on monitor calibration. But....

Oh gosh those look a lot different! Are you looking to match those colors or is yours just more of a deep purple?

Well, that's the deal. The fish I see are magenta, not purple. But if purple is as close as I can get, then I guess I can live with that. They certainly aren't _blue_ though.

Looking at them in the tank, yours looks more like what they look like under 14,000Ks. Mine looks more like what they look like under 20,000Ks. I pronounce it a success (except that I haven't been able to figure out how to get it to look like yours )!!!

What are the temperature of the lights in your tank?

The short end is 2 x 250W @ 20,000K and the long side is 4 x 400W @ 14,000K. Just the halides.

The royal gramma is one of my favorite fish. I had one when I packed my 10g SW off to boarding school 30 years ago and currently have one of the ultimate representatives of the specie.

My gramma has been made even more magnificent by the removal today of my purple tang, former emporer of my 100g, now leaving that little sob gramma in charge. He is going to be so full of himself I'm going to have to challenge him just to keep his ego in check.

Anyway, back to the color issue, I agree with Andy that they are more magenta than purple, though I find his example to be closer to the color of mine than the last "This one's really good" example.

TS, your shot was too pink / magenta. You've done an excellent job considering your "blindness".

You could add a Banggai. Mine chases the annoying little grammas around. Well, as much as a Banggai can be bothered to chase anything.

So, as much as I can tell on my uncalibrated monitor (most of my typesetting is grays, and I've always used Pantone chips for the rest), this is the color under the 14s:

Purple, but with the pink undertones. It's right there in the color picker, so I can't figure out why I can't get the photo there.

It's too bad they aren't actually the blue in my first photo. I really like that color.

I would add just a micro splash of blue to your color chip there and you'd have the color of the magenta purple part of my royal gramma.

I'm surprised about your Banghai recommendation! I had a couple long ago but they didn't thrive. They are lovely fish. I just didn't think one would ever chase a gramma around. I may pick one up just to spite my gramma!

My Banggai is only just barely an adult and maybe feeling his oats a bit. He needs a mate, but I'm down to only one female. She just gave another male a mouthful of eggs, though.
