any ideas why ??

I awoke today to find my female seahorse dead on the side of the tank
with a hermit eating on her. I had no idea that anything was wrong
with her at all. She acted fine yesterday with the exception of not
going to her hitching place to sleep last night. I should have looked
for her then but did not. Her mate slept on her night spot which I
thought was very odd since he has never done that before. What could
of happened. Could she have been egg bound maybe? Over two weeks ago I
did add their three siblings and the little boy has been flirting with
her and she would pass him up and go straight to her mate. Stress?
Everybody else seems very happy. I did add a green spotted mandarin
over a week ago but the mandarin seems to have adapted fine to
everybody and everybody to him as well. Will I ever know? And now I am
worried about the rest of the seahorses. ALso what about her mate?
Will he be unhappy since she is gone and not get over it? Help.

Hi Sue,
Sorry about the loss. It's not possible to say what happened without more information.
Tank mates
Tank set up
Water perams- Temp,PH,ammonia,nitrite,Nitrate
Any recent changes or problems in the tank, etc.

The only way to get close to a definitive answer would be to have a necropsy done. Everything else will be an educated guess.

That's true Dan but "if" something is going on in this tank, having the information I mentioned in my previous post could possibly help prevent further deaths if there is a problem that needs to be corrected quickly.
