any issues with this?

The tank came with this to stop fish and crabs and so on from getting into over flow. I made this since tring to clean up the look a bit. I am going to paint it black. This way fish and so on still can't get in but now light can't either. This way no algea growth in overflow.

Can u think of any issues that I'm not thinking about?

Nope that looks good. I made one very similar for my overflow. Just make sure you spray it with fusion.

Built one like that myself, but used black acrylic. Also glued a couple of acrylic feet on the underside so it can't slide around if I bump it, then glued a little square piece on top to pick it up with if I need to remove it.

IMO, I would prefer to have my fish jump into my overflow where there is still water than land on the top of the acrylic lid. Also, if there's no covering on the back then it appears to be easy for them to flop from the lid to the back wall..
Looks good, just not sure on practicality.

The lid is more important to prevent snails from crawling in and clogging up the drain line. I have a screen over my main drain line but over time it's clogged with sponges. I bought a manufactured tank that comes with a snap on lid that's been helpful.

The tank gets in custom canopy next week that will stop any fish from jumping out. So that's not a worry soon.

Yes the screen worked well for that but this one is to stop unwanted growth in the overflow box since no light will get in now.

+1 on the fusion paint. you could always mount the acylic with a bit of an angle to it. That way if any fish do happen to pull a Shamu onto the acylic, the odds they would slide back into the tank are increased. just an idea

I use this style of cover on my overflows too. I've found the 1/4" acrylic tends to bow a little from absorbing some water. I switched to 5/8" acrylic and have had less problems with the acrylic bowing .
