Make sure that they are eating, anthias have a problem doing that as it is, but these are bad......they really stress out from decompression and most don't eat and starve.
I'd totally agree.

Only started looking at mine after about 5-6 weeks in the LFS ... got it two months in.

I've found them to be very shy and easily spooked during feeding time by other/aggressive fish. Seems like people have issues with them coming out/eating fairly often ... and given mine is bullied by my Midas Blenny - I'd be sure to stock with a very peaceful tank [if flasher wrasses would do well = not too aggressive IMO].

Both of mine are extremely shy and passive. Right now they're eating frozen mixture of blended seafoods, recipe by jimsar.

$29.99 is a pretty good deal.

Yeah it is. List here in WI for mine was $65.

Or, for mine, three Acropora frags trade-in :)

That's might nice priced ... esp for one that's been at a LFS for a few weeks.

That is a killer price. Last time I asked him how much those were he told me $50.
I guess I got lucky! Or mabye I misunderstood him... I hope not though. The guy I talked to wasnt the owner though since it was Sunday when I called him. I will be picking it up in a short wile, so we shall see.

Oops, sorry Mark, I found your pic first and its a really good one, so I thought it would help people think back and say "I saw that fish at (insert store name here)!" My tank only has two little baby Percs that dont even leave the Anemone to feed, just wait for the food to come to them, so they shouldnt be bothering this Anthias any time soon.

Well... I got the fish, and after acclimating it for 3.5 hours all iit did was swim to the back of the tank and lay on its side behind the rocks. Is that normal or no?

Until it mellows out, IME yes.

Mine would not eat with me within 10' for the first couple weeks in my 35g QT. Probably the third week he'd come out if I was still ... by week 5 when it was time to go to the main tank it knew what the turkey baster meant, didn't hide when I got near the tank.

I'd expect a shy fish for a while, but that's only one experience ... anecdote at best.

Well, I figured it would hide, but it really lays on its side just lays there. it is breathing at a normal rate, but the only time I saw a fish laying on its side it was not very healthy.

It does perch oddly, not as weird as a Gramma but at first it reminded me of that on how it goes at strange angles at times.

Does it have problems maintaining it's `elevation' in the water column when swimming?
Does it perch all the time ... or just swim at an odd angle?
[swim-bladder?]

On the hiding thing - FWIW, a year later, it's out a lot. Not in the upper water column so much - but hanging out in front of it's overhang area, maybe 6" out.

When I just went over to peek, it was :)

Well, the only time it swam in my tank was down and around the rockwork to the back and then it just layed in the same spot it is in now. It has been about an hour now. When it did swim it was strait up and down.

Well it is standing on its underside now in the front corner. is that an improvement? It does however have its side fins sticking strait out...

Its a goner... I went in to the tank and the fish was laying on its side with its mouth wide open. I went to pick it up and it sqiurmed a little so I'm leaving it it for a while longer to see what happens, but I just do not think this fish was healthy in the first place. I will not be returning to natural life, I think the people I talked to did not tell me the truth and they didnt really have it for 3 weeks.

When I first got my pair in the tank, one swam in a rock cave and the other sank to the bottom in the corner similar to what yours is doing. I was worried for a while. Now about 2 weeks later, both are out hovering around the left side of the tank.
