Do any of our local shops sell the SEIO Powerheads?
since these were recomended to me to increase flow
in my tank, I thought I might try one. If I dont like it,
I'll just use it for backup.

I'm just wondering which flow rate to get to use with my
little 55g tank

I have seen them on ebay, but though i'd check the
local shops.

I know that Exotic Aquatics carried them a while back. You might call them and see about current stock. http://lfs.mycomas.com

Alternatively, you can get them online for a great price. Marine Depot, for example, charges $40 for a m620.

Sloan at exotic aquatics had several the last time I was in there at a pretty "internet competitive" price

Well,

The jury has spoken, I guess I'll visit his shop.

Now for the next question:

What size SEIO would you put in a 55?

Thanks

I put 2 m620 in mine. They create EXCELLENT flow. If I did it again, I would use 2 m820. Not that 1240 GPH isn't great. But more is ALWAYS BETTER, right?

You can, yes. But I don't know why you would. I doubt I have a coral that would mind the higher flow, and I have a pretty good hodgepodge.

Now an upgrade I REALLY want to do is to get me some of those magnetic powerhead holders. I HATE SUCTION CUPS!!!!!!!!

Well I went to Exotic Aquatics, but he did not have any SEIO's, he said he might
have some by monday.

I did get to look around, and bought a nice used Coralife Supertwist UV unit
with attached Maxi-Jet powerhead, for $30

I will check with him again monday.

I used 2 620s in my 75 and like Paul said, if I would do it again I would have went with the 1250s. I actually have the 620s in my 33cube, along with the return from the mag7 and I love the flow in the tank.

Paul have you tried the mod on the brackets that swivel to hang them off the rim of the tank? That is how I mounted mine and I love the ability to point and swivel as needed.

Isn't diffuse (non-laminar) flow amazing? People talk about the fear of sandstorms created by high flow. I think that with proper flow diffusion, this really isn't a problem.

Anyhow, I haven't tried that mod - in fact I hadn't heard about it. I like to use them stripped down, without the bigger outside enclosure, and then on the sort of ball-swivel mount. And the suction cups hold pretty well, actually. But if I disturb them, I always have to scrape the tank wall really well with a razonrblade before they will hold well again.
