Any Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime Locally?

I figured since its the growing and canning season I might be able to find some Mrs. Wages locally rather than ordering it directly online. Has anyone seen some in the stores lately? If so, can you share the store name and location? I am located in the Far West Suburbs just west of Elgin.

Thanks!

Sara

Do you have any Hispanic/Mexican grocery stores near you? Go in and ask for "Cal". Same stuff. It all comes from the same place, Mississippi Lime Co. I found a place near me that gets it for me in 50lb bags.

i havent seen it at meijer on the south side but the parent company precision foods says that they sell their product to wal-mart and target among others. i looked at both and didnt find it but they were the reg stores. i would try the super target and super walmart.

Thanks everyone ... I have 2 local Meijers that I can check as well as an assortment of Mexican Grocery stores in the Elgin area. I have checked a Super Walmart and did not find it there. I'll try the 2 local Super Target's as well and see what I come up with.

Sara when you ask for Cal, if they look puzzled tell them the white powder for tortillas. Then they'll know.

In the stores where is this stuff located? Is it with the spices and salt or in a special canning section?

Rod's shelf was empty of Mrs Wages last Saturday.

Exactly. It's not that far from Rod's.

Sullivans in Dekalb usually has it.

lcashman - I was tying to avoid shipping costs. If I can't find it in the stores, I planned on splitting a case with my neighbor to cut the cost of the shipment.

yznhmr - Thanks for the offer. I still have a little left ... just trying to restock my supply for the future. Nice try in making me spend more money on frags ;-) I also like the new avatar .. still the evil eye!

I also checked one Meijer store during lunch and no luck ... only pickling salt.

im new here what do u all use this stuff for?

It's calcium hydroxide it's used to make kalkwasser, one way of maintaining your calcium levels.

Well, if you make it into almost a paste and syringe it on aiptasia, it works pretty well to fry them in higher Ph. But it must be in paste form. Joe's Juice is similar content but not concentrated enough and does not work very well if at all. Great task when frustrated about other things.
