So I have a nikon d7100 that i love my photo's...
nikon AF-S 18-140 VR
nikon AF-S 70-300 VR
Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 VC Dii
sigma 10-20

However, in Feb & April will bve going to Dominican & Hawaii.
I am not comfortable with the D7100 & lenses near the beach due to sand, & salt spray/mist floating in the air. Afetr being around SC beaches last summer. Heck even a 1/2 mile inland the salt floating in the air was crazy.

SO I am looking to get the nikon 1 aw for these areas. And use the D7100 more inland.

Looking for input on the quality of this camera's pics. I know it won't be D7100 quality, but close? I have read some reviews and seems like good but not sure if they mean good for a point & shoot.

Also looking at the AW kit lenses:
10mm f/2.8
11-27mm
and possibly the 30-110mm f3.5-5.6

Any one have input on these either or general thoughts or even other ideas?

yeah I know, plus the d7100 has better weather seal supposedly. Just freaks me out to have $2000 in my hands that can go bad quick, especially on a beach and around water.

I am ok say 1 mile inland! :)

Cameras can go bad quickly anywhere. They don't bounce well. Don't let that stop you. Take it, use it and get GREAT pictures!

Plus it can go snorkeling.....d7100 can't.

This is the reason to pick up something else. I have a pentax and a gopro and theyre fantastic for knockaround surfing/snorkeling/pool fun.

You would gag if you saw some of the daring places ive taken my DSLR. I wade and flyfish with it in a small, harness style chest pack. I keep the nikon strap around my neck at all times. Even when its stowed in the chest pack.
Ive tripped and fallen right on the thing. Dropped it. Been caught in heavy rain. Gotten sand on it. They arent indestructible but theyre soooooo much tougher than people give them credit for.

Filming storm surf on the pacific coast is about as harsh as it gets. Blowing sea spray and sand. Never an issue. Just gotta keep wiping the lens and its a good idea to have a polarizing filter for glass protection.
