any one knows purple lineatus tang ? i have it today and dont have info

You have GOT to stop impulse-buying fish that you know nothing about, and then asking randomly what they need, instead of doing research first. You already went through this with your lionfish. Look before you leap! It will save you some money and headaches, and your fish some potential suffering.

Just a variant of a clown tang not the hardiest tang out there is very ich prone and requires alot of room and tank circulation and needs alot of vegetation in its diet, once established they can become very belligerent towards other fish and as the above posted stated do research before buying will save you money and lots of headaches along the way

There is a chance that you are talking about a Acanthurus sohal -- which is a horrible choice for a 100 liter tank (( assuming that is the tank that you have )).

Recently I have seen ctenochaetus striatus sold as "lineatus". Striatus have more of a Kole tang body shape than a clown. They are kind of greyish blue, with 15-20 brownish yellow horizontal stripes. Google it, see if you have a striatus or lineatus.

yes. above comment is 100% right.

purple lineatus tang is commonly known as C. striatus in Philippine stocklists.

the common name is extremely misleading and wrong. but the real fish is Ctenochaetus striatus

O.k finally have a photo of that fish, its almost impossable to picture him.

here is the baby, please id:

Looks like a juvinile striatus (tang experts correct me if I'm wrong).

Here's a big reason to do your research before you buy...that fish will not be blue as an adult it will be brown. It's still a nice looking fish, but if you were looking for a blue fish...you're out of luck.

Many marine fish have dramatic color changes between juvinile and adult stages, some of them lose the vibrant juvinile colors and become a bit more bland as adults.

+1, and they turn dark color quite fast after acclimation, they ship as purple liniatus since juvi's while in stress resemble color pattern of liniatus but with purple lines.

Thanks, i'm getting my money back and keeping the fish.

What?!? :crazy1:

Why? It's not like they didn't show you the fish before you bought it, you knew what you were buying...I don't understand why you should get a refund without returning the fish.

IMO this is 100% on you for not doing your research.

Good luck with that. Im sure the LFS you purchased it from has an invoice from a fish wholesaler with the words "purple lineatus tang" on it. Thats what they bought it as, and thats what they sold it as. They didn't misrepresent anything. Wholesalers are tricky all the time with the names they use for common fish. I was tricked once......Ordered a "Redtooth Trigger", know what they sent me? A Niger! It was my fault though, just like THIS is your own fault.
