It's been 5 days since I removed the cruse coral and added the live sand in my 55 gal. tank. It looks great and my tangs seem to look good also. (Good news!!)
I'm thinking of removing my Fluval canister filter.
I am looking at a ApuacC Remora Pro Hamg-On Protein skimmer W/Drain Fitting and Rio 1400UL Pump.
It's going to cost me about$230.00 from MarineDopot.
Is that all I need to keep my water clean?? I don't want to install a sump.
I am going to start adding soft and hard corals.

I would suggest you get a deltec MCE600 look in the fs forums im sure you can find one for sale... its made by Deltec if you didnt already know...

i have an aqua c remora urchin pro i think are the specifics. i love it. i hang it on my sump and it works well. i have a rio pump on it as well. the dark/smoke colored sides on it hide all the build up in the skimmer.

Ive used Remora Pros for a few years on my 75gs. They worked excellent and were easy to clean and to empty the collection box. A few tips.. If you keep the collection box high enough, you wont have a need for the drain fitting. One of my Remoras has the drain fitting with the RIO. I never had a use for it. On my 75gs, one has a RIO 1400 and the other has a Mag 5. I have Prefillters on both. They help alot. I dont see too much difference between the Mag and the RIO as pumps.

If youre going with an aquac remora skimmer look around they are easy to find used and save a ton. Kdocimo had one for sale I think. But just put up a post asking for one. They are good little skimmers for the money and a fraction of a Deltec. You do get what you pay for though. I have owned both skimmers the Deltec and the Remora. The deltec is a monster that will clean the heck out of the tank but is a LOT more. The Remora will probably do what you want to be honest, and you can always upgrade to the bigger skimmer down the road.

Tony you mentioned 55g tank and your Tangs are doing good, the Tang police are gonna get you :). How many Tangs are in there? They will quickly outgrow that size tank and most likely terrorize other tank inhabitants as they start feeling boxed in.

I had the Blue Hippo in my avatar in my 55g tank. It started small, ate like a pig, quickly outgrew everything in the tank, made a big dent in my bio-load. It then began going after my clowns as it felt more and more claustrophobic. I ended up trading it back and my tank is peaceful again & bio-load is nice and stable.

+1 on the Remora skimmer I have the regular version for my 55g and it's been great, the Pro will be more than enough. I would get the Mag drive-3 pump also rather than the Rio. It's a little extra but worth it. I have heard negatives about the drain fitting, I think it may be problematic, but don't have exp with it. Also the pre-skimmer box is a pita so don't worry about that either.

Someone here had a Tunze Doc Skimmer for sale as well. I'm sure that would work fine on your tank. The key is to keep up with your water changes.

Tang police?? I have a sail tang and an yellow tang. I'm thinking of getting 4 more small fish!!!!!!!!!!! I just have to do about 7gal. water change once every week.

I run the Remora Pro on mine, and I like it. I have the Rio 2500 running on it. I got mine used for $100 which came with the skimmer with drain fitting, pump, and pre-filter box. If you take a little time, you should be able to get a better deal on this kind of skimmer than buying it new.

The tang police patrol the waters looking for people who put tangs into tanks obviously too small for them. With a sailfin and and yellow in a 55, they will be coming for you!

Some would say a 55 isn't big enough for either of those fish alone, never mind together. Did you look into how big a sailfin can get? I believe its in the 15" range. And a yellow can get to 8" I believe. You're going to either need a MUCH bigger tank, or to find another home for your tangs. Adding more fish certainly won't help your situation at all. I'd have to say you're done.

Hmm, after reading reading that, it would appear I've joined the Tang Police, woot!

is your remora loud??
does bubbles escape in the thank??

The Remora does make some noise...like a crackling sound, but I don't find it very loud. Water pours back into your tank from the return, so you will get some microbubbles from that. Some folks have placed a sponge at the return to eliminate the bubbles.
