Any recommendations for a Vet?

Yesterday I decided to put my 7 1/2 year old ferret to sleep. His buddy was put to sleep about a year ago. He has been depressed since that time. Over the last month he started losing a little bit of hair and weight and then in the past few days/week it went downhill fast. He lost about a lb and this weekend his hair started coming out in clumps. I looked online where it indicated this is almost always adrenal issue and many times testing is skipped altogether based on symptoms. I made an appointment immediately Monday morning. To make things short, when I went to the vet they offered hundreds of dollars worth of testing but little in the way of treatments and their effectiveness. My last ferret had cancer, but she was still happy so I thought it worth it to put her through it treatments until she went into diabetic shock. All I could think is he hasn't been happy in about a year and now how many treatments and medicine and I going to need to give him just to sustain him when he's not happy.

In the end, I don't really think I feel comfortable with my vet anymore and since I know many of you have pets of your own I wanted to see if anyone had a good vet. Now I have dogs and cats that are all getting up there in age.

All depends where in Milwaukee you are located. If you give me some direction or landmarks I can guide you. The best of all of the clinics in Milwaukee and around the country is the Animal Emergency Center, but really expensive and they do not see routine care. They are open 24/7/365, just in case.

I live in West Allis by Hwy100 & Greenfield. As I don't go to the vet too often, I'd be willing to drive 15-20 miles. I was thinking of trying the Spirit of 76th on 76th & Lincoln, but wanted to see if anyone here at any input.

I forgot to mention that I do have a snake as well, but have yet to have any problems. It would be a plus to see a vet that could also handle my snake needs as they may arise. At one point I read somewhere the Spirit of 76th had a good herp doctor.

I did like when I went to the Animal Emergency Center the couple times I've needed ER. Their staff is really great and compassionate to not only your pet, but to you as well. If I could find a general vet with similar service that would be great.

There is an excellent Vet in Waukesha. Kuenzi animal hospital, they have great staff and the owners are great people. The hospital has state of the art equipment, maybe 20 minutes drive from Milwaukee.
The animal emergency center use to have a board certfied doctor in exotic animals and birds Dr. Lichtenberger, she use to take appointmenst I am not sure if she still woking there

Also Lakeside Animal Hospital by bayshore Mall, they also deal with birds and reptiles.
Pahle Clinic in Oklahoma ave by Hwy 100. They do not see reptiles, but they provide good quality care.

I've had good experiences with Crawford animal hospital for my two dogs and they're not far from where you live. They're my 3rd vet in the Milwaukee area and my favorite of the three. Something tells me this is the vet you're having problems with though...

Alta View Veterinary Clinic is a good clinic and Tuckaway Animal Hospital, Pewaukee Animal Hospital is a good one, Elmbrook is good and Excellent for Birds as well as Kuenzi animal hospital is good too.

Dr. Lichtenberger has not worked at A.E.C in over a year. The reason she gave was she is helping in writing a book. The other reason is she is building her own 24hr Emergency Clinic on HWY 100 2 buildings down from Aquatics Unlimited. Animal Emergency Center did towards the end of 2008 get a new board certified doctor who specialized in fish and other exotic animals I just can't recall his name at the moment.
