The tank that's holding the Stingray should be somewhat close to your specs. You said you need two? No problem! Heck, by the size of your property, you could easily fit 10 of 'em.

I have a friend with a 8x4x2 that was buily my tru-vu a couple years back. The thing has been filled but never run, other than live rock and surges. Its completely open top and there are holes drilled for all the surges. Other than that, the tank is still in very good condition. PM if you are interested and i could give you some more info. BTW, he had it on a stand so i couldnt get a feel for the way it would have looked as a prop system but he also had similarly sized tanks that were 10-12" tall and they seemed to work very well for propping. Let me know.

I pay my peeps well to lie. Its really not all that spectacular, but soon, the shop itself should be rather interesting sight to behold. Something about 1500 gallons of water and 3000 watts of lighting just seems either really cool, or very dumb - or both?

Once the licensing and permits come in, CalCRC will be officially born and you can come by and take the 20 cent tour - don't worry I can give change.

Ok, here is the best pricing I can find thus far on the tanks:

96x48x24 - TruVu - $2800 (for one, so 2x)
96x48x20 - Atlantic - $2400 (for one, so 2x)

These are for 1" thick acrylic, framed on top ('EuroBraced'). Still more than I was hoping to spend given I a ton more $$$ will be needed for the other pieces. Ack!

actually that's a great price, think about this, each 4x8 1" acrylic stock cost almost $500, u need 4 to 5 sheets of it to make a tank 8x4x2, that's at least 2k already. given all the time you will put in on cutting, trimming, making jigs, and gluing it plus the possibility that you may messed up in the process. $2400 is well worth the price, at least that's what I think.

Well assuming they route the top brace (vs. piecing it together) the top and bottom are 2 sheets. The sides will be one sheet with a little left over - so 3 sheets total if I did my math right.

If 1" goes for about $500, so a 1k each markup for the labor and small profit margin (or 2k total). Hmm... Any acrylic experts out there?

yes you are right, I don't know what I was thinking when I said 4-5 sheet, basically u need 3 full sheet plus a 2x4 sheet. also I double checked the pricing on the acrylic sheet, for .75" thick, it's $14.18 per sq. ft. and for 1.25" thick, it's $42 per sq. ft. so it's still kinda pricy. but even if $1k for laboring and hassles, I still think it's kinda worth it, given the size of the tank. but then again, it's just me.
