Im thinking about using it to get rid of some cyno and was wondering if anyone has used it? good/bad things about it?
Thanks, Kris

I've used it before and it does work with limited success, but just remember it's a temporary fix at best.
If you don't find and remove the cause the cyano will just start to come back in a week or two.

Personally I wouldn't waste my money on it again.

yea i have used, and like loyalrogue, it does work, but for a limited time, you must do waterchanges and increase flow

I used it many times in the past in FO tanks, with great success. I've never used it in a reef tank.

If you choose to use it you need to remove your carbon and shut off your skimmer.

Like LR said it is only a temp fix. You need to cut out the excess nutrients.

I have used it and it does work but you have to find the source of the problem because it will just come back.

IMO
1. Increase flow to area.
2. Lower your phosphates by a water change or adding a GFO.
3. Reduce lighting period.

Well i have a 34g solana and i have the stock pump and a maxijet 1200. I thought that would be enough flow? I tried reducing the lighting period to 6hrs a day and ive been doing water changes every 2 weeks. I'll try feeding less but what could possible be the problem?
Thanks for all the help so far guys!

Not sure which Red Slime Remover you are referring to, but just be aware that the Ultralife brand (and just about any other that works reliably), is going to be an antibiotic. More specifically, it's erythromycin. Even more specifically, it's erythromycin phosphate. As it breaks down, you are essentially adding phosphates to the system. Bandaid at best.

As everyone said, you have to find the issue or it will never be gone for good. Unfortunately, if you have a really bad breakout, it is sometimes necessary to dose to save the livestock. If so, here's a good method:

- turn off skimmer and remove carbon
- half dose based on label instructions
- if no change in cyano, add the other half dose
- 48 hours later, 25% water change
- turn skimmer back on and add carbon
- 48 hours later, 25% water change
- 48 hours later, 25% water change
- 48 hours later, 25% water change
etc.

Goal is to get as much antibiotic and residual phosphate out of the system as possible. Get a good phosphate test kit (salifert) and once your levels are off the chart, you can ease up on the water changes.

Just my .02 cents...
