Anybody got some Enkamat?

Do any ASM or ER owners have some Enkamat you're willing to sell? I want to try my hand at the mod and see if I can get some better performance out of my G4x. Since I've added these Anthias, I feed about 4 times per day (I just can't get enough of them swarming like sharks for the mysis). I am getting about half a gallon per week of skimmate, but I know there are a lot more nutrients in the water column. I am pushing about 1200gph through the skimmer rather than the stock Sedra 9000(900gph).

Also, if anyone has done the mod on their skimmer, would you mind helping me out? Thanks.

Cliff

Sweet!!! Which skimmer do you have? How's your mod working out? Do you happen to have an air meter? Can you offer some help with the mod? Have I had to many espressos today? Sorry for all the questions. I think I've had to much caffeine and allergy medicine today.

Yup, I got some. Ill give you a chunk free of charge.

Anytime after 430pm on the weekday. Anytime during the weekend. Or you can PM me your address and I can mail it to you.

Thanks for the Enkama, Russ. It took me less than an hour to do the mod(had to keep looking at the pics on the mod thread). It's been running for a couple hours now. I had to drop the riser tube about 3 or 4 inches. I'd say that's significant on an 8 inch skimmer body. I'll let you know how it goes.

Cliff do you have a link to that by chance? Russ I am really thinking about that skimmer you posted. That is a good price.

Your welcome Cliff. Nice to talk to you about reefing last night. Hopefully the mod will supercharge your ASM. It should. Dan, I have some Enkamat left so if you get a new skimmer, we will supercharge that too!

I was going over the thread again this morning and realized I made a mistake. I only put 3 layers of material on a Sedra 9000. I should have between 5 and 7. Well, time to pull the pump out and redo the mod. This time it shouldn't take more than 20 minutes, I bet. I'll keep you guys updated.

I wonder why the manufactures don't supply these skimmers with the modded wheel. It been done for a while now, I wonder why? I can't imagine it is that expensive for them to build a different head for the impeller? Maybe they don't visit any online forums.

Seems like they would have a boost in sales advertising "the all new mesh wheel skimmer!"

Sorry to hijack but i don't want to start a whole nother thread. Cliff I assume you got all the leaks and what not straightened out on the closed loop?

Oh, yeah. Once I used the rigid PVC, everything has been golden. I can afford the few gallons of friction loss to lose the headache of the spa flex. The 2" diameter is a bear to deal with.

So, now my only issue is to get this skimmer pulling a couple gallons of chum per week. I really enjoy feeding heavy, my fish are fat and happy, and I just want to be able to cut back on the frequency of cleaning diatoms from my glass.

I think ASM got these pumps when everyone else started doing threadwheel impellers. SO, the cost to consumer is less expensive, we just have to become fluid dynamics engineers to get the biggest bang out of them.

I didn't have the tubing completely round. It was more of an oval and wouldn't seat in the pvc fitting. That was just on the return. The intake side was no issue. I may have had to much tension on the run from the pump outlet up to the manifold.

I put 5 layers on the Sedra 9000 about an hour ago. It was right after feeding so I don't expect any activity for about another hour. The residue from the mysis last about that long. I will post an update tomorrow.

After 1 week, here's what the skimmer is pulling. I cut the feedings done to once per day from four times per day and still get a little more skimmate than before. If I tune the skimmer and start feeding heavily again, I believe I can get the gallon I'm looking for.
