Anybody got some Enkamat?

Thanks. The collection cups holds a gallon and I didn't want to have to dump it more than once in a week, hence the lack of feeding. When I started filling that quart measuring cup, the smell almost floored me. By the time I finished taking the pics, you could smell the stench upstairs. I will have to be sure to add some kalk water to the cup from now on. I am going to increase the feedings to twice a day over the next week and see what happens.

Cliff, do you get any micro bubbles out of your closed loop returns? I'm not talking about a bunch but do you see any bubbles floating around the tank?
BTW that skimmate sounds perfect, I notice you have anthias do you think they'll be ok with 1 or 2 times a day feedings?
Chris

Chris, I don't get any microbubbles from my CL at all. Fortunately, that has never been an issue that I've had to deal with. As far as the anthias, I typically feed at least 4 times per day. I just cut it done to once to test this mod. I am ramping it back up slowly just so I can get the skimmer dialed in. They get flying fish eggs, small mysis, large mysis, fortified brine, formula 2 tiny small pellets, and the Tropical Marine Gran that Mr Aqua feeds his anthias. And, that is per feeding. That's why I needed to do the mod to get more out of the skimmer because I dump a lot of food per day.

And, I've only had to clean the glass of diatoms every 3 days or so since the mod. Of course, that could be due to the cut in feedings. :)

I hear ya Cliff, thats why I upgraded my skimmer also, the dang Anthias! But they are cool.
BTW Premier in denver has purple queen anthias right now, they were in the quarantine system, I think he has around 5 of them, I know you were wanting some.

What type of Anthias did you end up getting?

Thanks. They are only about 2 inches right now but they never seem to stop eating. They "taste" anything in the water column. But, oddly enough, I have to wean them onto every new food that I introduce. I took about a week to wean them to small mysis from brine and then another week to get them to eat the bigger PE Mysis. I am now trying to get them to eat small pieces of squid. But, on a good note, they now eat small F2 pellets and the Tropical Marin pellets since those have been dumped into the tank since they were introduced. I started with 6; in the first 10 days, I lost 3 that jumped out the back of the canopy that is covered with gutter guard and "sunbathed" on the center brace. I found very small openings in the GG that were inadvertantly(sp?) exposed after cleaning my overflow slots. I think the alpha male chased them out, though. I saw a little bickering before each episode. They are very difficult to tell apart.

Yeah that's a unique looking fish, I haven't seen them before.
None of mine have jumped yet, but it's always a possibility with these guys.
I watched one turn into a male, that was kind of cool, you can tell he now herds them around sometimes but not too aggressively yet.
Where do you find Tropic Marin pellets?
I've been using Boyd's pellets, the fish love them but I am almost out and may try the TM.

That's why I got these fish. They are available only seasonally due to environmental issues in their habitat. I had been trying to find them since last summer and Fishy Business tracked them down for me. I never had heard of anthias jumping either, but I now have first hand experience. Nothing like a $30 peice of fish jerky :)

I got the TM pellets from Mr Aqua. I had never heard of anyone getting anthias to eat pellets(I hadn't done much research on their eating habits), and he threw some in his 1000 gallon. The anthias swarmed on them, so I was sold. They weren't that expensive either. And, they have TRUE neutral buoyancy if you're looking for something to stay in the water column.

Dude try having $150 fish jerky after 3 days. I bought a red velvet fairy wrasse about 9 months ago and after 3 days it found a way to jump out the back between the eggcrate and the back of the tank. $50 a day of viewing....Damn it doesn't even cost that much to look at fish at Seaworld. lol

I now have had a RVFW for aver 3 months and nowhere for him to jump. Well knock on wood...
