Anybody have experience with Marco Rocks?




This is about 40-45 pounds of Macro Rock in my 40 breeder (minus the flat purple piece in the middle). The rest is in the sump. I've had it running since mid February and I read undetectable phosphates yesterday. It's also nice and purple-brown already (this picture is just a few weeks after I set it up).
 
I just rinsed it with tap water and let it dry a couple days. You'll want to rinse it, it's very dusty. And if you get the sand from them also have fun, it's VERY dusty! I rinsed the sand and it still took a couple days to settle after I filled the tank.
 
Alright guys so I got my tank aquascaped. I posted this in the reef discusion ao for those who are following here im posting it twice lol I also made a video on my youtube channel you can check it out there guys I leave a link at the bottom to take you guys there. But first things first. I got some great advice from everyone on here about Marco Rock and I'm glad I went with them over Bulkreefsupply.com. ..no offense to BRS it's just Marco really take the time to make sure everyone gets exactly what they want. Great customer service. I will be placing my Rock in a brute trash can with saltwater at 1.026 which is what my tank will be set at. It will be in there for about 3 months roughly. I will not be adding anything to because I want to really test the phosphates. The only way to do that is if your testing the rock alone and no added nutrients guys. If i we're to ghost feed it and start my cycle during the curing process, I'm not going to know where exactly the phosphates are coming from. So I will be doing that within the next week or 2. After 3 months I will test the water and see if there is really any phosphates. If there isn't then I should be good to go. After 3 months phosphates should leech out if any. Now once my rock is in my tank and I start cycling my tank...the moment I see phosphates present I'm going to know it's from ghost feeding and not my rock. So I hope this test will be helpful to those wanting to start a tank with Marco rock or are curious to see if there is any phosphates in the rock. If it's going to leach phosaphate it will show up inside a week,ime. I don't think you need to wait 3 months to start cycling.

I totally agree, but a lot of people are saying it takes a while to leech...I may only wait a couple days and then start my cycle who knows lol no at most I want to go about 1 month to 3 months max. I set that time frame only because I won't be done with my tank until then..so meanwhile, why not just hang out in a brute tub for a couple months.
 
I just got 50 pounds of marco rocks. Was really 53. Exactly what I asked for, 4" to 10" pieces, all individually bubble wrapped. Out of the total was only 2 pounds of rubble, smallest was golf ball size. Next step is to acid wash and buy RO/DI unit. :dance:

Nice Bruce! Ya they do a great job making sure their customers get what they want. I got some awesome pieces!! Idk if you watched my youtube video but I did an unboxing of my 50lbs and went through every piece in detail. I wanted all pieces irregular and no round rocks at all. They did a great job!!

That was when I first got the rock and did a quick aquascape. In these pictures I used all 55 lbs of rock. If you look back at my build thread of my 40 breeder actually running it's only 40 lbs because I wanted less in there for more coral space....I also wanted to make a sense of depth look to the tank so the rest will be going in my sump. 10 lbs of it is in my 10 gallon nano, but you can check that out on my other threads.
 
There may be enough residual oraganic material to get things going . I would add a little fish food to the tank for organic carbon , phosphate and nitrogen during cylcing.
