Anybody Here Uses Tunze Stream Pump for a 50G Tank?

I am thinking to buy a Tunze Turbelle stream powerhead 6060 or 6000 for my 50G SPS tank (36"x18"x18"). Would it overkill?

It seems to me that the Tunze powerhead is extremely efficient (1600gph/11w and 1850gph/15w) compared to maxijet powerhead. How can it do that?

I think it would be fine, just make sure the placement is not blasting any-one piece. It would be good for making a smooth current throughout the tank and maybe just a couple small ph's for direct blasting of hard to hit places.

I have a 6000 in my 57 which is 30 inches long and if I can get a good deal on a used one I would like to add another.

I am running dual 6000s with a multicontroller on my 3 ft long with a sandbed. Pumps are mounted high and there is no sand disturbance whatsoever, and my SPS love it.

I've got a 6060 in my 58 ... I would go for a 6000 instead.

It's overkill, but if varied output, probably of use.
I tend to think my 6060 can be problematic ... but I've got it, it's cheap to run ... so I do.

tunze wavebox and a 6100

i had 2 6100 in the tank but was blowing around my frags no matter how i had the pump

May I know how deep is your tank?

I would like to know the difference of the multicontroller and single controller. According to my preliminary understanding, a single controller can controls up to 2 pumps. Why you got a multicontroller?

chadfarmer - DANG what DON"T you have nice on your tank???

i run two of the old style electric tubelles on my tank. a 7300 and a 7200. i want to upgrade them to a 7400 and a 7300 only need a 60+ transformer. i guess i can up grade the turbelles to a steam (6000, and inbetween a 6100 and 6000) w/ about 90 bucks

Not overkill at all IMO

Ive got a 36G w/ (2) 6000 on a mutli, and a 6060 for detritus control. :D

along w/ a MJ 1200, and a seio 820 as supplementaries

I think im close to 250x max turnover:p

I've got a 6060 in my 58. It's mounted in the right rear corner facing the center of the front glass in a slightly upward direction. Flow is smooth and everyone seems happy. Sand is not disturbed.

i had a 6060 in my 4 foot 50 gallon BB. it's on the left side front, shooting across the tank to the right side front.

it's definitely not too much flow, at least for the 4 foot tank. i had several dead spots where detritus would collect.

it will probably be a little tricky in the 3 foot tank, especially on the side the stream is pointing at.

The singlecontroller only controls one pump, hence the word "single", whereas the multicontroller can control up to 4 :)

My tank is 2' high and I have one pump on one end mounted near the top, and the other pump is on the opposite side mounted about middle height. My fish and SPS love it.

I run the 6000 in my 65g tank, 36x24x18. It is up on the back wall angled a bit. I run barebottom so I can't comment on sand blowing issues. I have been tempted to add another.

According to the following URL:

http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_wavemakers_tunze.asp?ast=&key=

Tunze Singlecontroller 7091
The unit is supplied with connection cable for wave simulation with Turbelle electronic. By means of branch adapter 7092.34, two Turbelle electronic can be operated synchronously. If photo-electric cell 7094.05 (not supplied) is connected up to the socket, the automatic operation in night mode can be activated.

Are we talking about the same thing?

you can put two controllable streams on a single-controller. but you won't get any wave action, sequential start, etc.

they'll just be doing the same pulse.
