Anybody Make their own Rock?

Just wish you guys were closer to ames so that we could do this, Maybe I can convince my dad to help out this summer, He loves doing stuff like that, I thought about to make a cave or something taking a plastic baggy and filling it with sand and covering it up with the mixture then opening the back up and letting the sand spill out, hopefully the bag will be able to come out after that... any other good ideas on ways to make it more pourous or cave like?

I would suggest just using sand with no bag. If you use the bag then the cement will look very smooth and not natural. If you use sand you will get the texture of the sand in the cave which is what you are looking for. When I post my pictures this week I will show you an example. The bottom of my rock got too close to the container and I got a flat bottom :(

Thanks!

acid, I will be in DM next weekend for the meeting, if you wanted to get your supplies i could give you a quick run through before or after the meeting. and yeah, lose the bag. the sand will just rinse out of the rock after it sets up.

hook, same goes for you. next time you are going to mix a batch up give me a call and i will come over and give you a hand.

DIY Rock

DIY Rock

I have made about 30 lbs of diy LR using the crushed Oyster shells and they came out good. It's easy to make arches, flat rock or caves. I have used both sand to make the caves or you can blow up a small balloon. Leave the end out and when it hardens just pop the balloon and it pulls out.

I'm still curing the rock. I'ts suppose to take about six weeks.
