Does anyone need chaeto?

Unfortunately, fortunately the stuff grows really fast in my tank

I'm in SF.

What lighting do you have? I've seen posts that said they do great under flourescent, others said they grow faster under spotlight gro-lights. How many hours a day do you have the lights on? Thanks,
Jim

I would really like some , but i am in Canada, Montreal, so i dont know if it will be still alive in a bag for 10-15 days ? I cant find chaeto anywhere here !!!!!

I haven't set up my sump yet, so the chaeto floats in my fifty gallon tank. I have a pair of 96 watt Actinics on for eight hours, and a 150 Mh on for about six hours. I just replaced the actinics with new bulbs, so I can't comment on the old one's that they were under (replacements until I could pony up the cash for the new bulbs-they were gasp ten mo. old). The chaeto grew just as fast with the crappy actinics I had in there (okay maybe they grow faster now).

Bummer you live in Canada. There has to be aquarists that have it up there.

good chaeto

raddogz,
i got some chaeto from you about 3 weeks ago. Since then its been growing like gangbusters. It has filled my 10 gallon sump twice already (i guess i have high nitrates). My chaeto grows under a 65 watt Lights of America light that you can get from the home depo--I recommend the light but only if you can get them from a place that allows returns. Two of the lights i got burnt out within 4 days--i'm hoping the third one's the charm.

PM'ed you - thx RadDogz, I really need some. My bunch got messed up in a sump adjustment and I can't find it anymore.

pm'd ya back.

After this pruning, this will put the chaeto back to a managable amount again.

if you wind up with any more chaeto let me know and hopefully i havent went down and bought any yet. i'll trade some margarita snails if ya want.

I've found with the LOM lights that if you drill some holes on the top for venting that they last longer. It seems that they are made to be on outside at night so that they stay cool and being in a confined warm area they burn out faster. JMO

I found the exact same thing as mobert. I drilled a ton of holes in the sides and top and I had one of those lights last over a year. Then I just bought a new 1 and did the same thing and it lasted a year too.
