Anybody need Cheato?

I got some from a local a few weeks back, it grew, lol. $10 a portion, small sandwich bag. I'm growing it in my new Fuge under a 20watt, 12volt halogen from Lowes.

Caulerpa is good, but for fuge/Bio filtration Cheato works better, less invasive and less chance of meltdown. I'll have some more in a few weeks.

yes, but it is better confined, grows in a ball like a coarse steel wool. Also most fish don't eat it. Put in a high flow area with light. In sump is ok but could break loose and clog something.

Thats why I got the Cheato for my new tank, its set up as a mini Turf scrubber. I have about 50GPH going thru there and 24 hour lighting, hopefully bryopsis won't get a toehold with all the competition, Cheato, Caulerpa Christmas Tree Halameda and Deltec

My tang eats the caulerpa. Ill take that if it is available and easy to get. I have some but it does not grow fast enough.

A very nasty hair like algae that takes over tanks. Not fun to have and its nearly impossible to get rid of. I have it in my 27, but luckily not my 110.

Okay, here is the dumb newbie question. Why should I use Cheato? How should it be kept? Is Cheato important to have?

I have a 30gal with one fromia star, 1 emerald crab, 1 peppermint shrimp some softies and zoos.

Most use it in a Fuge( a section of sump or seperate tank tied into flow ) to grow pods n a protected enviroment and the cheato acts as a Algae scubber/pod habitat removeing Nitrates and Phosphates from water passing thru. In your case it might not benefit much and crabs might tear it up.
