Anybody use Toter garbage cans to store RO and saltwater?

Here's a link to what I'm talking about.

From Toter's website, they have this:
"All EVR II carts meet ANSI standards of Z245.30 for safety and Z245.60 for compatibility".... but I'm not sure what this means as far as chemical safety.

At less than $1 per gallon of water storage it seems like a nice way to store almost 100 gallons... and they appear to be built like tanks but heavier than your run of the mill Brute can.

does it say they're food grade I think that's what you are looking for. If they are food grade you should be good to go.

Yes I have the 96 gallon one and it worked great for a few months but it eventually it started leaking where the hump is in the middle about half way up. I tried to repair with silicone but it never worked. After reading closely on the sale tag it says rated only up to 400 something pounds but if you do the math with it full of water its over 700 lbs hence while I eventually had problems. I hope this helps and saves you the money I wasted.

It does! Thanks man!

They are well known for tipping over. If you use one make sure that you keep it on a flat surface that 100 gallons of spilled water can be cleaned easily. :) This one does look like it would be better than some of the other wheeled trash cans though.

I have two of these that I use for garbage. They are great for that purpose. They are kinda top heavy I could see them tipping over (as mentioned) if full of water. Also, they have a textured surface. I think that would cause problems keeping them clean.

If the budget is tight. I'd go for the Rubbermaid brute. It is food safe. I have seen the 44 gallon at Lowe's: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=46995-1097-FG864320 GRAY&lpage=none There is also a 55 gallon available: http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/pr...splastic&category_name=24897&product_id=29978

If the budget allows for a little more, I'd go with this:

It's pricey but they do offer free shipping. Not to mention it is made specifically to store drinkable water so no concerns about weight, leaks, or water quality. Also, comes with some sort of bulkhead at the bottom which is nice.

Thanks for the feedback. I already have Brute containers that I use for water storage, but I'm looking for something larger. The Toter looked since because I could have gotten almost 100 gallons of storage for under $1 per gallon.

I looked at my local tractor supply today and they have 110 gallon storage tanks for $235... just seems like a lot of money for something that holds water.

In the end I may end up just picking up larger Brutes or some 55 gallon barrels.

they are way to flimsy for repeted usage . rubbermaid makes 100 -250 gallon storage tanks that are used for cattle ,livestock etc and they are safe 100 gal cost me $104 so thats close enough to a buck a gallon and they are bulletproof 1/2"thick fiberglass . never ever could you break one of them unless you hit it with a car !

Here is what I use:

They come in all sizes, and are actually designed to store liquids up to 2.0 SG.

Yeah, that's the same thing I posted in the plastic-mart link above. gototanks.com does not include shipping on the price. I guess it would be best to price shop.

Are you talking about the Rubbermaind stock tanks? I like the price that you mention, but I'm thinking you're talking about the stock tanks. Those are nice, but IMO take up a bit too much floor space for water storage. I already have two of them, a 100 and a 150 and I love them for sumps / refugiums, just not sure about water storage.

yup the stock tanks and yes your correct ,they do take up some considerable space . wish i could stack them , gonna be my next project . should be a piece of cake !
