Anybody with SPS running Reefbreeders fixture?

I am thinking of buying the photon 48 for my 55g. If you are an SPS keeper and running Reefbreeders LED let me see your pics, please! Thanks in advance

I ran one over the wife's system and the sps frags didn't do to hot. Also hated the purple tint from the light when trying to run anything but the blues. Ended up adding two t5s and all looked and grew much better. Still ended up adding a ReefBrite halide/Led hybrid and everything exploded in growth and color on her tank. Sorry not much help, but I personally did not like the light for many reasons.

I wouldn't say my tank is awesome but thanks...I still believe that t5 with the right mix of colors gives the best colors. I have a friend who I have traded frags with in the past and would say the colors look a touch better in his tank with the same frags. BUT!!.. the trade off for just having slightly better colors are bulb replacements almost yearly, no shimmer (huge downside for me), higher in tank temps, and most importantly higher electric bill (assuming this as I havent really ask him, but 8x54watts vs 2x120 watts max for LED).

Edit to add that yes its a 110g tall ^^^ and that video blues were at 70% and whites etc at 60%.
The superlux is being run now at 90% blue and 60% whites/other colors. Colors pop a bit more now, plus needed more power as I filled the tank higher.

Kissman, your mind seems to be made up on this light, but I would suggest a 4 bulb ATI or tek T5 fixture over a standard 55g tank. You will get complete coverage, and the initial cost is lower, especially if you buy used. Not saying that the reefbreeder LED won't work, but for most hobbyists, T5 results are clearly better than LED results for SPS corals.

Thanks, yeah my mind is pretty set on this fixture. I am currently running a Nova Extereme Pro 6x54w HOT5 fixture and I need a new light, legs are broke(light is sitting on 2x2's), fans are squeaking and to be honest I am tired of the $120 a year for new bulbs. So i am really looking hard into the LED's

How did you manage the overflow with the level running lower? Is there a sump?

I like T5 with LED strip lights to add shimmer. I do not mind the bulb replacement cost because I calculated with the amount of LED's I needed it paid for 3 or 4 years of bulb replacement.

I think you have the right idea with LEDs. A lot of coverage over the top rather than a single light source trying to light a large area.

I dont have a sump or skimmer. I do have a small DIY mechanical filter in the corner. My fish keep the tank mostly algae free.

Oh my. Can you share some information about your current setup and any special husbandry (frequency and size of water changes in particular). I just found an old 55g thread but none for this tank.

Sorry Kissman for the hijack! :)

Sorry about the hijack Kiss!
My old tank is the 55g with all the corals transferred to the new tank. There are some old videos in my channel like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZ76gq5f98o of the 55g using the same techniques. Some acros should be much larger, but I have made many frags from them (depends on local demand ;) )
Anyway I do about 2 water changes a week using RSCP salt and about 4 gallons each. The water change is at a higher salinity (1.028...dont try this at home kids!) then in reef of about 1.026. The reason I do this is I hand dump kalk saturated water daily (twice in the morning and twice at night of about 1 gallon total), and the salinity will drop to about 1.025 in a few days. This gives the tank a boost in all levels that have been depleted (like dosing, but not really) and bring it back close to 1.026. I dont have any numbers but I look at my sps daily and they are still growing so all seems good. I do plan on probably doing the 2 part method if I see a major decline in growth.

About the filtration.. I dont even have a single CAC in my tank. No snails, no hermits crabs..nothing. I really hate detritus build up, and twice a month I blow out the rocks using a a koralia 750gph powerhead. It creates a massive storm in which I use a aquaclear HOB filter stuffed with filter floss to suck in all that gunk. After a few hours Im done. I think the sps really like it when I do that:D. I also leave the back of the tank filled with algae, but the tangs keep it trimmed down. Also SPS keepers should have a Kole tang in their tank. It works non stop all day, and at night with just ambient lighting.
..getting long just remember.. More biology less technology.
