Moving Out
Just wondering if it's worth the trip?
How would you compare it to the Coral Corner in Racine?

Did you have to call ahead, before stopping in?
I've heard it can be hit or miss otherwise.

Yes I called ahead and let them know what time I would be arriving. It is run out of thier house in the basement, they have a nice selection of LPS, Zoanthids, Clams, and a few SPS. the number is 1-847-231-1028. Remeber it is run out of the house so calling during normal buisiness hours is probably a good thing.

Are the SPS in the basement now? Last time I went looking for SPS and they had to send me to another guys house a couple of miles away from them to go see them. They said they didnt have the setup proper for the SPS, and this other guy was a sort of 'partner' in the business.

They had a few SPS in the basement maybe 15 or 20 types and mostly monti's, I was not really looking at them very closely because that was not what I was really looking to buy.

Shotanks is more like a half hour away from Sharkeys reef. Sharkeys is just off Route 45 and Sho-Tank is on Route 45 but the new store is 1 block south of the sign (They recently moved).

I have never been to Shotanks or The Coral Corner are either of them worth checking out? what type of selection and prices do they have?

Thanks,
Chad

Shotank was a mess when I went there. They had just moved in but still, it was bad. They have a huge tank right inside the front door and the tiles from the ceiling were soaked with water and about to fall in it.

Went back to look at the fish and an employee came over and lit up while asking if we needed any help. I don't mind smoke but there were a handful of kids in there and the back room where the fish are is SMALL. Not pleased.

As for the selection, If your in the area it's worth stopping in. I'm not sure what day they get stock in but it was a bit sparce when I was last there. 10 tanks were filled with a single clownfish each.

I've sworn I'll never be back and I live 30 min. away.

Never been to Coral Corner. If your up for the trip hit Oceans Floor. Best in the NW burbs.

Shotank - you must have been ther a long time ago - was there last month - bought a bunch of live rock - big pcs - 6 bucks, little ones (6" and less) 3 bucks. Very nice store, about 4 nice complete tank setups. Healthy fish and coral - and even some used stuff.

Coral Corner is great - I just bought a foxface ($30), lawnmover blenny(12), some other stuff, and a squamosa clam for $25, small, but beautiful... The guys in there know their stuff. The had some nice size corals for reasonable - they had a large (like 10" across, double head) open brain for $90 and the thing was beautiful - almost bought it, might next time. Just get off on highway 20 and drive east - almost all the way into town. It is on a triangular corner, right hand side of the road.... completely worth the trip.

that has been suggested, not to many people where interested though for some reason. You can try it again if you would like.

Reef Dwellers and Rod's are also very nice places to hit if we take a road trip.

I wouldn't suggest doing it this weekend as Allen is hosting the meeting Saturday.

Does anyone have the addresses to Shotanks and Sharkeys? I want to go tomorrow or friday. I live in Milwaukee and am not familiar with the Racine area. Thanks.

Shotanks and Sharkeys are located in IL. Coral Corner is in Racine. CC is supposed to have a new shipment in Thursday.
