Anyone else trying one of the green gigs from bluezoo?

Anyone have an update? Mine still looks reasonably healthy. Still a brown gig though. That's not going to change

One responded great to cipro and I expect to move it to the DT this weekend. It's bleached but otherwise it appears healthy. The other didn't respond well and I pulled it yesterday. Photobucket on my phone is acting up and I can't get pics to upload.

DrDNA, what was BZ reply to your email?

Not sure on mine yet. I have been at work during the day all week so I can't really check on it with the lights on. I have the lights set to turn off at 5 so I can change the water and add cipro as soon as I get home. It looks good when I get home right after the lights turn out but by the morning it is balled up like a Magnifica. Never really does what I would consider deflating and the mouth is always closed right. I'm going to stop cipro after today and see how it does for a couple days. I'm nervous to add it to the display since I already have 2 nice gigs in there. Not sure it's worth the risk to my others for a brown one.

I wouldn't risk adding it. If you can keep it in QT for a couple of weeks just to observe, that's probably your best bet.

Yea, I think I'm going to just add a cycled marine pure block to the QT after the cipro is done with to hopefully keep things stable for a couple weeks to make sure things are still looking ok.

Have any of you had a gig accept food when it was sick? The one from blue zoo totally dumped its Zooxanthellae but I expected that during treatment. It appears otherwise pretty healthy. I fed it a small sliver of shrimp yesterday which it ate very quickly. I'm curious if anyone has had one take food and still be sick?

Having an issue with mine that is probably because I am dumb. I had my light set to turn off just before I got home from work during treatment. What I found out yesterday was that the light was never turning on due to a broken timer. So the gig had nothing but ambient room lighting during the whole treatment. Now that I fixed the light (just a clip on LED spotlight from Lowes) it shrinks down to basically nothing when the light is on. When the light turns off it goes back to looking great. I'm assuming it just needs to get used to the lighting again but this is a pretty weak light so I'm not sure how to acclimate it any slower. Mouth is still always tight even when shrunken down. Any ideas? Pics are about an hour after lights out. Didn't take a pic during the light cycle but it was about the size of a silver dollar with no tentacle extension.

(Second pic is through the side of the Tupperware so it looks cloudy)

Please keep in mind, all I type is for the guy that's going to read this 10 years from now when none of us are here.... Trying to acclimate a gig.... I'm sure you already know most of what I'm going to say....

Pfan, don't sweat it, it's a hobby, keep it fun! If it's not fun, we all sell and go to something else more rewarding...
That guy is still in ok condition, but needs TLC. Don't wait to take action, time is ticking. I've read your posts, I see you have the ability to keep it, I know you can. I would use a 5K spot in the TT, just increase the distance a LOT, as in, 3-4' above the TT, 12 hours a day should be good (that's where they come from). Get a new timer. Lower it down as much as it will stay inflated, and this step may take some time (and work) on your end to find that threshold. When it deflates, raise it back up 6"-1 foot to keep it inflated. Try lowering more a couple days later. It's really a game. I've found you can literally deflate an anemone on the spot by killing it with light (when they're fresh imports). When healthy, they will LOVE high light, but when in compromised condition, they can't handle such intensity, so fast. Keep the water in "pristine" condition. I can't find the energy to type so much, but read the thread above I responded to earlier today, about changing water, in this thread http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2624593&page=4 post 51 and 52. It may need a "reset". You can do this over and over, if you catch it early enough and take action instead of "waiting" for it to move or improve. If everyone treated all their anemones this way, I'm sure there would be a LOT less nem deaths. And I mean A LOT. But this takes time, talent, and cost money for salt and water. I don't have the energy to respond all the time, details matter and it takes time to translate all the details accurately. I'm missing several details right now... Too often the guys that are "aces" in their field are able to keep salt life that's not so "easy" effortlessly, but their water is in pristine condition (like Orion N) and they post how they rehabbed their nems using water that's less than ideal. Then the average Dave tries and fails... Before you know it, a ton of people can't keep gigs because they followed that suggestion about using DT water to rehab. I don't fault the "aces", they have incredible water parameters, I do not, many new reef keepers struggle like me too. My water is not perfect, and I'm guessing most normal people struggle like I do. #1 rule (WHEN TRYING TO ACCLIMATE A GIG), water must be pristine. Acclimation using 24 hour aged salt water can NOT be over emphasized. After water is figured out, and stable, THEN figure out flow and light, in that order. Order matters, just like details.

But ultimately, Pfan, you got to get that guy acclimated to high light and high flow (in good water). It may not really need another round of cipro, but still needs the care of skill. You need to be that skill. KEEP IT INFLATED at all times! There's a difference between typical nightly deflate, and a deflate due to sickness. Yours doesn't look to me like it's sick, just needs TLC (light). I think your TLC begins with light acclimation, looks like you may have water figured out.

I would not try feeding it until it's better settled, just what I wouldn't do. It will take longer to acclimate, yes, but the flip side is if you feed it and it's not ready, you'll be flushing it. It's a gamble feeding. Feeling lucky? LOL

PS... you aren't dumb. I feel dumb too, I wish they came with instructions!

Definitely dumb to not make sure the timer was working right though. I think it will still come around but I definitely set it back. I was hoping to be able to add it to my display with the others in another week or so but I'll be holding off now until it can handle light again.

That's a nice one I've only ever seen 3 ultra green gigs and I bought every one only the small ones survived so I'm sure this guy is going to do awesome! Best of luck :)

Hey, how's the gig doing any update pics?

Still alive. Looks decent but it's not sticky anymore. Still not sure if it's going to make it or not. If I didn't have other gigs in the display I would have put it in there to see how it did but I'm not going to now until I'm sure it's perfectly healthy. I haven't used cipro since Friday

Mine is struggling along. I don't really have a good spot in the house I can do a cipro QT at the moment with a toddler running around. I finally did get my order resolved with BlueZoo.
