Looking for any experience or input about Golde Angels. I have been thinking about getting one for my reef and I have seen mixed reviews about them. But the people I talked to are all "here-say" they have never actualy owned one. So let me here about your experiences good or bad.

I assume you're talking about Centropyge aurantia. If you are looking for someone who has kept one in a reef with some success; you'll probably find someone. Someone, somewhere, has done about everything in this hobby. I've never owned one of these fish; but everything I've ever read says most Angels in this genus are "iffy" in reefs. Here's a current thread about the very closely related Flame Angel....and I think this is a very common story. Certainly more common than the success stories.
DD has a Golden now and they say reefs "with caution"; which usually means they will nip at some corals. Scott Michael's "Marine Fish" (IMO, a great quick reference book) says pretty much the same thing. I just don't consider authors like this or the folks at DD to be "here-say "Just my .02.

These angels do best in reef tanks, and if well fed they will do little harm to corals.

I just re-read my post above; it sure sounds like I'm in a lousy mood. Sorry for the tone. I've had very poor experience with Centropyge angels in reefs and probably just generalized too much.

I have two, they are beautiful and shy fish. They nip as most angels do, but do no substantial damage...ie they do not eat any of the coral in my tank. I only have SPS.

Yes, i'm talking about the Golden Dwarf. I have heard stories of Flames nipping and other smaller angels doing the same. I have owned quite a few of "dwarf" angels over the years and never had one nip at anything that I ever saw. Including 2 flames in the same tank. That's why I was asking about people who have owned one. To the guys who had them, when you bought them where they eating in the LFS at all?

my first came from the LFS show tank, it had been in there for 2 years, it eats most everything i put in the tank except pellets. the second I grabbed of DD and it eats mysis and brine etc.

The biggest problem with these are where they come from and how they are caught. I would suggest if you are truly interested in one to grab one off DD or somewhere very reputable.

These are by far the most "nippy" angel that I have ever owned, much more so than any other dwarf for sure (ive kept most of the dwarf angels at some point or another).

I agree. There are exceptions, of course, but (IME & IMO) fish from Diver's Den are the best available to most hobbyists.

I think ToddTrex has one in one of his reefs now.

Just saw this (( was posted when I was having my back surgery )).

I do have one in my 58, and it loves to nip at corals, mainly fleshy ones. I have yet to see it eat any prepared foods, but it is not skinny at all, so I have a feeling it is eating the food that goes into the caves. It has been leaving my zoas alone, my clam, just a few nips at my SPS -- less PE, but no real damage.

Here is a pic,

And here is a video -- albeit a bit shaky at times -- in the beginning you can see it picking at an open brain that I place in there for it.

Very shy but beautiful fish. Also pretty reefsafe, but that always depends on the individual fish.
