Anyone ever heard of a nigrete clownfish?

Amphiprion nigripes possibly? ;)

If so, lovely looking clownfish, difficult to obtain/initially maintain healthily over there in the US I understand (or am I making that up!), but don't seem to have that problem over here.

If that's the name, by all means do a little searching and come back with any specific questions. If it isn't, then maybe provide us a with a description...

They are not hardy. I worked in the fish trade for years and have been a clownfish enthusiast for a decade. I have only gotten them in a couple times and always lost a few if not the whole batch. They ship them long distances from sri lanka and the maldives. They usually arrive in very weak shape. They are incredibly prone to brook infections and you really need to be experienced in quarantining, giving hypo and formalin treatments. I never had any that made it long term so I couldn't comment on how hardy they are when they have acclimated.

tank-raised, six years in june, never a problem. too bad ora stopped breeding them.

i've found mine does much better with an anemone. this is it's second sebae, had a rbta(s,s,s,s.....), in between. each time i removed one of it's anemones it would sulk and not eat for a few weeks. all the while and thereafter intermittently digging the sand around the anemones last known address.

this past november, the purple tang flicked it's eye. the black of it's eye looked like it bleed into the outer area. was also cloudy and slightly popped with a slash mark across half of it. thought about treating it with antibiotics but didn't. i left it in the tank and it healed of it's own accord.

i'd like to get another for it but i'm against buying wild caught.

That's them, thanks. another ? how hardy are they and does any one here have them?
Very bad shippers, buy a bunch and watch most die from brook/amlyoo. If they make it through acclimation, they are darn near bullet proof. Breed like clockwork. Mine are insanely defensive of territory. In the old days, the female(aka Cujo) would bite, now the male is a bloodletter as well.
