anyone ever made a do it yourself light rail like this one or have any ideas ?

i guess you could but i would just look for one on ebay i have onw that i got on there for 75 dollars and it came with 6ft track
 
That kind of takes all the fun out of it if you go and buy one. ;)

I would think that in the long run one that the one you bought would be better since you wouldn't have to mess around with limit switches and overload limiter and all the other stuff.

hmm searched for light rail and light mover and found nothing . am i using the right key words ?
 
i considered this with some spare bike sprockets, chain, and a motor. shouldnt be to hard to rig up... it would just need a motor powerfull enough to move the weight of the light.
 
I drew up plans to use some Uni-strut as the rail, with a threaded rod inside for the mover. A carriage would ride on the top of the strut "rails" and the turning threaded rod would move the carriage along. A 24V HVAC damper motor would drive it. Havent built it yet, but should be very compact and tough as all get out.

But for $75, if I didnt already have the stuff laying around.....
