Anyone feed DT's phytoplankton?

ANYONE THAT SAID THEY SEE LESS ALGAE GROWTH WHEN BASICALLY DUMPING PHOSPHATES IN THEIR TANK(IE ABOVE POST) IS AN UNOBSERVANT IDIOT(TIRED OF IDIOTS POSTING CONTRADICTORY...FLAT OUT STUPID...

I don't think anyone said that in this thread...

Those are too much money, I'm not saying their over priced(how do you collect oyster eggs? can't be cheap), to use on a regular basis.

Not sure. I'm thinkin' it takes a little coaxing. :lmao:

A lot supposedly goes "a long way" (at least that's what it says on the bottle I believe).

I never saw any of the polyps go crazy when I would put the stuff in...then again I'm not sure if I'm supposed to.

I've tried all sorts of things from golden pearls to cyclopeeze to phyto to baby brine, and from everything that I have tried I've never said hey my corals really look better because of this. Sure, there might have been slight changes, but if they were there they were very minimal. The largest changes that I notice are from changes in water chemistry.

Example:
Having a CA reactor go down and letting CA/alk/trace fall.
No water changes for extended periods of time.
Not cleaning out debris/detritus at bottom of BB for 2-3 months.
*All of the above happening at the same time* :(

When things like that happen I notice changes, but when I feed certain things over any period of time I do not see any changes in the corals, good or bad.

DTs is not a premium blend. It is just marketing. Now you can't take their bottle and start your own culture. At least with Reeds you can get individual strains in case you wanted to start your own. Plus DTs is almost always dead phyto. Phyto-feast is a much better product. As far as making a big difference that will be tank to tank. If your tank is starved of nutrients like in a lot of the BB tanks it will help a lot. If you have a well established sand bed and lots of rock it will probably only cause more algae. You will be adding extra waste that the tank doesn't need.

i stopped feedin phyto years ago and have an immense pod population; i do feed oyster eggs semi regularly, a jar lasts months, with two tanks being fed. if you have a lot of softies, maybe then the phyto is beneficial, but with sps, not needed imo.

Phytofeast is some BADDDD SHOO SHOO!

first, its preserved... and with Citric Acid I do believe

I DONT want preserved phytoplankton in my tank!

Why wouldn't you want preserved phyto? I would rather have that than dead and rotting phyto.

Why wouldn't you want preserved phyto?

um... key word... preserved.

LIVE is better.. I trust DT's

My microscope.

I dought that, unless you have a profession grade microscope that can view cell respiration and cell activity.

DT's uses cold hardy species of phyto.

Sorry, but your wrong. Neither of the two Phtyo-Feast products, Phyto-Feast Live, and Phyto-Feast are preserved with Citric Acid.

they are still preserved... just not with citric acid... I got that mixed up with marine snow, WHICH IS,... check the bottle!

Gresham works for Reed mariculture. You better be carefull when talking about a product if you are not sure what you are talking about.

Yes I would prefer live to preserved as well. But as I said earlier I would prefer preserved to dead and rotting.

I am not a chemist but I used to work in a fish store that had a scope and we checked a few different types of Phyto under it. DTs was some nasty stuff when we looked at it. We looked at multiple samples as well. I hear about others doing the same thing and they have the same results.

To say that DTs uses cold hardy species of Phyto is pretty generic. What is the differece between the Nanocloropsis, Isochrisis, (sp.)etc... that the other brands use. Are you just trying to defend the brand you use so you justify using it? You seem to have a real dislike for other brands for no apparent reason. You didn't answer what the problem would be with preserved phyto. So why attack other brands with false info? So what is this preservative that Phyto feast uses? Maybe you can inform Gresham as to why his product is inferior.

Who cares, your corals don't care if it's live or dead, just that they consume it, and if it contains the right things for your corals to eat, then your good to go, no need to argue over all this.

I've fed both phyto and oyster eggs, plus I use prodibio products like Reefbooster, so it's hard to tell what's doing what.
What kind of puzzles me is how a 1/5th of a teaspoon of oyster eggs can have enough food to feed a 180g SPS tank. Direction says use 1/5th of a teaspoon.

YES IM TYPING IN CAP BIATTTTTTTTTTTCH

Since when do does RC put up with this type of posting?

Read the article on DT's website about analysis of DT's vs Phytofeast. I don't say you have to believe it, but it is an interesting read.

I use DT's phyto because I have some small clams (1"). I do have more macroalgae growth, but no micro. I also used to feed Oyster eggs, but overdid it a bit and got an outbreak of cyanobacteria. Now I just feed Dt's sparsely.

I believe the poster was initially banned less than 8 hours after the post was submitted.
