Pre-ordered the new nano light from AI, the AI Prime. Should be shipping sometime this week, looks like it was released to distributors on Friday. CAN'T WAIT to get this light over the new cube! If anyone has theirs, let us know how its looking! (Also if people start getting theirs, that means mine will be here soon!!!!):dance::dance:

Just got mine and I really love it! There are issues, however, that AI needs to address. It is really lacking documentation, and the web interface does less than the iPhone app. I'm also having issues with the Lunar mode not working. Makes me think they rushed this product to the retail market without doing more testing and providing better documentation, which is a shame. Hopefully they come out with a new firmware update to fix these issues and make a user manual! As of now, there is no user manual! :mad2:

The lunar mode needs to be set at the max intensity you want to see in the full moon, then it'll decrease that as it follows the moon cycle. It is supposed to be a lunar cycle, so you will see days of no light.

Gotcha, that makes sense! Another reason why AI needs better documentation for this product.

Yeah, as far as I heard they didn't even include instructions?

I didn't get one. I was waiting until other people got them to see how they really are.

Love mine. I received mine on Monday.

First controllable LED. still messing with the controls. Lack of documentation was a disappointment for me as well. I Bought the mounting arm as well. The horizontal bar is waaaay longer than it needs to be and looks awkward. Other than that, I think its great for the price!

Mine is going over the CAD 4g. Looking forward to Friday, premium aquatics said mine was the first fixture sent out yesterday when they went on sale :)

I got mine last Saturday. It isn't quite as bright as I had hoped and there are some issues with "MyAI". Fit and finish is very nice, although the fan seems louder than i'd expected.

I agree there is no information included with the unit or the tank mount. They reference going to support.ai for information but nothing about the prime is on that site.

I also cannot get my tank mount to work properly. I cannot get it to hold tension in the orbiting portion so that it will keep the light in position. So my light droops :( again no info other then a 1"by 1" piece of paper with the mount that says DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN SCREWS. So I slowly kept tightening and tightening and checking tension. No improvement.

Also does anyone know what the button on the underside is used for? I feel like I pressed it a bunch and now my "AI" symbol constantly flashes blue then green.

Got mine yesterday too. Great light. Very tiny, sleek and simple. Out of the box the light itself was beautiful and a snap to get the wifi setup.

Here's where the story takes a slight turn.

1. It definitely needs better documentation on settings. I tinkered around for a good 2 hours before I figured out the lunar cycle etc. Hope this is provided at the community grows.

2. A minor gripe: Needs more automatic light cycles. Hoping this is fixed in a future firmware release so I don't have to manually update anytime I want to change the light settings. Those looking to own every aspect of lighting will love it. It's a matter of perspective.

3. Intensity settings should allow for a # entry as well as the slide bar. I had some issues dialing in to the exact setting I wanted a few times. Hope this is also fixed in an app update but is also a minor issue.

4. The bracket is not so good. Definitely the weakest part of the device. The design is nice in theory but not great in use. First and most significant is that the ball joint has major issues and causes the light to droop. This is due to poor quality on the spacers. Thee material used in the version I received is too soft, stretches under light tension and causes the light to sag. Despite heeding caution not to over tighten, they still do not do the job. Of note: on my spacers the orientation made a huge difference as to how the ball sat in the socket. Unfortunately neither orientation worked for me, but may for others. Give it a shot. Also the cuts on the spacers were sub par.

Next, the mounting arm is significantly longer than it needs to be. Granted, I have mine over a Cad 4g with the rear chamber removed but it still extends > 6 inches beyond the back of the tank. A heads up this may create space issues if you have your tank backed up to a wall.

Finally, some machining on the arms was a little rough. If I had kids I'd have to file the edges down, for me it's not a real concern.

For a $30 bracket I expected a little more precision and design consideration. I'll be returning mine to my LFS to see if the functional issues were just on the one I purchased.

Overall despite a few issues, this light has a ton of promise. As is, i rate the light a 9, the app a 7 and the bracket a 3. If AI only improves the ball socket spacers on the mount it will go a long way to make what I already think is the best nano light out there even better. If you're looking for a light for a 12g and under it has to be at the top of the list. It's a great value when you consider everything it offers though you may want to hang it until they make that bracket fix.

Interesting...

Former owner of an AI Nano, same story. Loved the light. The bracket was damn near useless out of the box. It took a lot of time and work with the Dremmell to get it to function they way I needed it to.

I was thinking about a Prime for my coral quarantine tank but the lack of details and documentation is a gamechanger.

Received mine a few days ago and absolutely love the size, adjustable spectrum and price! Although lack of instructions for the light and tank mount were disappointing. After having the same issue with the light not having any tension with the ball joint of the mount I talked with C2/AI customer service and they said all I needed to do was to tighten the ball plate screws some more. I pointed out that there was no instructions included but they did manage to slip in a little piece of paper saying not to overtighten. Rep said just don't use a power screwdriver and it would be fine. I used the included Allan wrench and tightened snug til I felt resistance= it did the trick. Now light will adjust and stay fixed. Hope this helps

I wouldn't let the lack of documentation stop you. It's relatively intuitive, but you will need to invest some time initially in the lighting progression you want. Something i didn't factor in. Spoke to the rep today and they said they're working on some lighting templates that will be available in the future.

As for tightening the screws more, it still didn't work for me. I reached out to AI and they are going to replace the entire mount. Great customer service!

I'm so excited!!! I'm putting this over a 25g Ecoxotic rimless cube for a rose bubble tip anemone and a pair of snowflake percs... Just waiting on the light to put them in! Just got the email yesterday for tracking info so it's en route :) hopefully the mounting arm isn't as bad as it sounds...

Providing a picture of the spacers. The image might not show this well, but the spacer on the bottom is considerably thinner than the one on the top. Neither was able to hold the light secure enough.

All said, I'm extremely happy with the prime. The color and customization are awesome. It is replacing a Fluval nano sea that I had on my tank, which was a good value broad spectrum pico light in it's own right.

I can't wait to get the replacement mount and really get it going.

I thought about putting both spacers on. One in "front" of the ball and one "behind" and then tightening the plate. Has anyone tried this?
