Anyone got a pump to sell?

wanted to give my money to a fellow reefer before I bought a new pump. I need something like a mag 5 or so.....to just stir up my water changing saltwater and then to push it over to the sump. Let me know because I need to get a water change done this weekend and I will just go buy a new pump if no one has one available. Also it was so nice to see so many people at the aquarium restaurant!!!

I used a SEIO pump to do water mix and change before, it works great for me until it died.....It was a free pump anyway.....lol

This may not help but harbor freight has there small sub pumps on sale. I have one of the 180 or 190 gph. They are 9.99. I got one a couple months ago and it works for mixing 5 gal at a time and then pumping it to the tank. Ricky

For what it's worth, I use a quietone 6000 for return and everytime I turn it off for water change or just a power outage, I have to take it out and take it apart as it will not restart on it's own. I'm replaceing it as soon as I recover from my new lights.

Our quietone does that too but we just leave it pluged up and take it out of the water, then put it back in the water and it starts up again??? I wonder if this is normal or maybe some kind of safety feature that forgot to mention???

Not sure, but I will try that. just taking it out and putting in right back in the water and see if that works. either way, I'm replacing mine with a mag in the near future

I have two Quiet Ones, a 6000 and a 3000 and they work great. I unplug them to do sand filtering etc and they restart as soon as I plug them in.

I use a quiet one with a venturi and a mesh mod to mix saltwater. I haven't had as many problems out of my QO 4000s as I have with my QO 3000s. And I haven't had as many problems as others have. Can't explain that other than luck. But they're not 100% reliable. Great for mixing salt though. Cheap, low power, and lots of flow. And if modded they can handle a large amount of air.

Norman, I know it's quite a bit more expensive, but have you thought about an Eheim for a submersible return pump? They can't be beat for that task IMO.

I have not, as my experience with mag pumps has been good, I will look into them as that pump will be the work horse for my 90 gal and will also have to run the frag tank also. In fact I use 2 pumps now (one for the chiller, phosban, charcoal and calcium reactor) But am thinking of a move to only one larger more dependable pump, so thanks for the tip.

Ah, now I see why you're using a QO 6000 for a "return". All that is a lot to ask from 1 pump, especially a submersible one. I'd consider 1 pump for the chiller and 1 for everything else, since the chiller probably isn't ever used 9 months out of the year. And will it even run much now that you've switched to T5s? The largest US available Eheim is the 1262 @ 900gph, so it's smaller than the QO 6000 but it handles head similar to a Mag 9.5 but with less electricity and heat. The only complaint I have with my Eheim pump is I HAVE to use hose when first coming off the pump, and they may have changed that on the newer models. I have a pretty old 1250 with I think 3/8" thread to 1/2" hose barb on it. So you may end up preferring a Mag for that reason.

And I've assumed an internal pump, but if your sump is already drilled and you're running an external pump, it might be worth looking toward a PanWorld or Iwaki for reliability.

I love starting up threads and getting into the details of good pumps...gotta love this group...think I am gonna NOT get that quiet one pump...whew! I did however, just remember that I have an extra tunze sitting around temporarily at least to use this weekend.....duh on me! Thanks guys!

A Tunze for saltwater mixing... Yeah, that'd work. The quiet ones are fine for something like mixing water, but to tell the whole story I wouldn't own one at all if I'd heard about the restart problems so many have had. As it is, I own 3. I bought 2 new 4000s intending to use them as closed loop pumps (they're 1000gph @ 40 watts), then scrapped that idea after hearing about their reliability. Then I tried mesh mods on them and at some point picked up 2 used 3000s for dirt cheap. I've drilled and dremeled the volutes and outputs for better air flow, planned to use them on a DIY skimmer. They pull a lot of air, which makes them great for mixing or a skimmer. I even sold one of them to c_stowers after he saw how well they did. 2 of mine are in a 32 gallon brute with new SW right now and another is uh... well, I drilled it a lil too much.

If you've got an old maxi-jet laying around, a $15-20 sure-flow type mod will provide plenty of flow (1000gph+ for about 10 watts), and if the distance or height to pump isn't too much it should even be able to do the water change (without the mod attached of course).
