Gabriel, someone in the club has a trap, you may ask at the next meeting or mention it on the Yahoo group list. I know that I borrowed one a few years ago from someone to remove the same fish!

If the hippo is a greedy eater it's pretty easy to trap 'em. Get a reptile box from petco (they're cheap) that's big enough to hold the fish. tie a string to the handle. Weight the box with a small rock so it doesn't float around. Start putting all the food for the tank in the box. What usually happens is that every fish you don't want to catch goes in the box first. When the hippo goes in pull up fast. their instinct is to swim down which drives 'em deeper into the box. I pulled 8 purple tangs out of my tank that way.

Pre-made trap door style trap I think im going to make my own out of acrylic will post pics but the looks like a cool and simple solution

I have that exact fish trap, it is great but terribly designed. first the water leakes out of it faster than you can put the fish in a bag.
also the door sucks and you have to keep your hand in the tank to close it.
But I have taken out many fish with it, so I guess it works.

thank you guys

the blue tang that i want to remove is at least 6" long and 4" tall (fat little sucker)... and spooks VERY easly...

does anyone hav a trap large enough for a fish that size?

Ken who is the member who has the trap? can you ask in the yahoo group for me?

if not i am going to try Chuck method.. its just that this blue is a real wimp and does not stay out in the open much

Thank you

Gabriel
