Anyone having a sump attached to the aquarium?

Why not having a sump attached to the side of the aquarium and using a powerhead for moving water to the sump and water back to the aquarium from the overflow of sump?I would prefer this design as it is really annoying to prone in order to access the sump.

I had my fuge set up as a display tank that sat next to the main tank on a stand about 1 foot higher so the fuge gravity fed back to the main tank. I had it setup like a seagrass macro tank and the gravity feed was nice as the pods & shrimp etc didn't have to go thru a pump to get into the main.

So you are speaking to a style similar to the false back aquariums only rather than back it would be side(end). More like a peninsula style. I imagine most enthusiasts would still hide the side sump and therefore feel it is a waste of display space. In other words... If you have a 48" long tank, why dedicate 72" of space. Most would opt for a 72" display and stick the sump underneath. Like you, I crave for more space above my sump... that will be my next tank. Sort of like having a 9' ceiling in the basement.

I don't understand your question. Can you repeat it in English?

Yeah sure you can do what you propose.

No problem.

A lot of people have a sump so they can hide the heaters and all that garbage out of site. Your proposal won't help with that very much.

If you do it nicely with a refuge on the front viewing side, a nice ball of rotating cheato (sp) would probably look nice and could hide rear heaters etc.
