Anyone having issues due to the heat?

Turns out my new place is an easy bake oven with no ac. It was 85 inside yesterday. And between my own, ah, inconsistencies, and heat spikes, some of the more delicate corals have been giving me the metaphorical finger. Even with a fan over the tank and a fan over the sump, I had to get my chiller out and I'm not looking forward to next month's pge bill. At least my corals should be happier now that the tank temp has been capped.

Anyone else experiencing heat related problems?

So far, so good here. Same no AC. Not sure I'd call the house an 'easy bake oven'. Does Hasbro make a 'Easy bake sauna'! :)

My temp spike yesterday:

I left yesterday to go camping. I'm interested to see how it looks when I get home. I shut my lights off so I will have a little less heat being added.

I went through 4 gallons of RO from the time i left for work at 9:30 AM until the time i got back at 8 PM. Thankfully I had the dehumidifier running in my room! lol. It's only going to be hotter today =[

My frag tanks in the garage and its easily 90's in there. Tank was at 81 at its highest point. I'll check the frag tank right now actually hold on..... outside is 91, garage is 84 and frag tank is at 77-78 date june29th 12:36pm. I haven't been to intricate with my reefkeeper elite to figure out the monthly degree changes but once I have time I'll read the manual :)

Here's my 2 cents.

I run my halide at 9:30 at night till 3am.

During the day I have no pumps running for 6 hours besides the return pump. That's 10-4. Then they kick on. I do have a clip on fan now that if it hits 80 it will turn on.

Eric Bornemans theory is that higher temps, like 81-83 boost metabolism and increase calcification. Interestingly, he also believes that corals can tolerate a temporary 5 degree rise and 15 degree drop w/o showing any adverse effects, and this rise or drop is relative to the normal tank temp. So if that is true, the corals in a 76d tank will start ailing at 81-83, which is the natural, yearround temp of the popular South Pacific coral zones in which your coral are from. And a tank at 82 will be fine until 87-88.

that doesnt make me feel so bad about my tank

I was thinking of changing my halides from 7pm - ~12am. wish i could have them 9-3 am but it's in my room LOL.

You would have to be one deep sleeper to fall a sleep with a halide on LOL

Peak temp readings for me yesterday were 98 outside and 90 inside. I'm impressed with how well my chiller is doing. 1/4 horse.

I'm doing what I can to cool the house off overnight and in the morning before closing it up when the exterior temp starts to exceed the interior.

In my previous house I never encountered such high interior temperatures. While I've heard the temperature info Dragonvale cites, I am finding my tank was not liking the temp swings it was experiencing. Now with the chiller preventing temp overruns, hopefully things will return to normal.

The weather forecaster on the news this morning was saying Monday and Tuesday might be even slightly hotter.

No chiller here. I think this has been the hottest its been in Petaluma since moving here a couple years ago. I've just been using lots of fans to keep it cool, the tank got up to 82, so I finally decided to raise my lights 4 inches to help with the heat. So I opted to hang from the ceiling. Looks a bit odd with vaulted ceilings, but it will do for now.
