Hey everyone ,

I picked up this anemone in hopes my ocellaris clowns would host in it . The LFS guy said it was a bubble tip anemone , but I can not find a picture of this thing anywhere in my searching ..

Can someone out there tell me what kind I have ? Here is a picture of it with flash on the camera ..

It does look like a very healthy BTA, but that pic doesn't give much to go by id wise. Interesting colors.

E. quadricolor is the scientific name of a BTA...might have better luck looking up that. Bigger pic, one with the base to see where attached and color, but probably a BTA.

Thanks for the input ... I will do a search for the E.Quadricolor and see if I can find it that way
I will try and get some better shots , without flash and a couple different angles ... He seems healthy whatever kind he is ... :-) He sure can gobble down food ...

hiya drbcool :) looks from the pic to be a bubble tip but it is hard to make a posative id without a better pic.

heres a good website www.karensroseanemones.com

dont over feed or it'll end up spitting it all out... i feed about 21/2 pencil erasers sized silverslide every three days.( my nem is about 11 inches or so when really happy)

and random mysis here and there.

r u going to the meeting? Im a bubbletip FREAK, so if u need any help.. :D

after a hr i started thinking.. dont you have pretty low light? maybe im confused or cant remember. what kinda lights do u have agian?

Tourkid , yes I am planning on going to the meeting if nothing arises to prevent us from being there ...

I have 2x65watt PC lighting , but so far that doesn't seem to bother anything in my tank . :-) Everything seems to be happy and healthy with the lighting .

I read an article on Anemones and the guy said you can keep them in the dark as long as you feed them as they are not photosynthetic(sp) animals .

they are VERY photosynthic. you can make up for lack of light with extra feedings, but light is a very very important roll. so u have about 4 watts per gal. you may be able to get away with it, but if its health starts to decline im really going to suggest u upgrade to 175 watt mh.

check out that link i gave u and start haunting this forum and you'll get alot of good info. anemones are amazing :)

You can pull it off with PC's(I do), but I would recommend a 2X96W at least for 36G for anem to be happiest and put him close to the top.

I had mine over pcs for 6 months, it was pale, but bubbly. never all that happy, never grew much. put up a 250watt mh... it turned bright green, grew to 16 inches and split three ways (all in time of course)

Well for now he will have to be happy under these conditions .. I can't upgrade the lighting just yet , but 2x96 watt pcs would be cool .. I will keep an eye out for someone getting rid of a fixture ...

Ok my anemone moved out of the light completely and is now in about the darkest place he coulda picked in the tank ... I thought he would move toward light rather than away from it ... He is now residing under my rock work in the cave system .. I am not sure how I am goinna get in there to feed him ..

find a way to feed it, but it probley wont stay there long, it is resting/recovering. did u look at that link? its pretty helpful

hey tourkid , I glanced at the link briefly on my way out ... I will look at it in more detail later on .. toothache is killing me I have to go see my boss this morning .. One of the perks of working for a dentist even if I just take care of the farm ..:-) He says sounds like either root canal or extraction :-((

You are right he didn't stay there now he is above the rock he came on and has his foot in a deep crevace of Phishy live rock :-) He will most likely move from there as well .. Any idea where he will head ? lol ..... He is on the side of a cliff at the moment ...

aLL OVER TILL IT FINDS THE RIGHT FLOW with A GOOD PLACE FOR ITS FOOT. hOPE YOU COVERED YOUR POWERHEADS (darn, sorry about those caps) anyway, that link will show you great ways to cover them so u dont get anemone soup

I sat here reading the great information on the link you sent .. very informative site . Thanks for sharing it with me .. :-)

yeah, we pass that site around alot on here. it rocks! answers almost any questions :D

Is yours still moving today? or is it a night mover? mine would only move at night when it wanted to move, if the light came on it would stop whereever it was.

As of now it is stationary in the Phishy live rock .. I like that rock as it has lots of holes and spaces .. My Royal Gramma likes it as well as he moves in and out of the rock at will ...

My anemone has implanted his foot deep in the rock .. :-) For now at least he is stationary .. I am hoping he stays there ... I am getting some silverside from Phishy's tomorrow before the meeting .. I bet he will love me for something other than mysis .. :-)

good. half the battle is it finding an adiquate spot for its foot! is it near the light?

get some selcon too while your there if u dont have any. Its great for fish and anemones.

start off small with the silverslides, it seems like alot of stress when they spit them back out ?(if theyre too big!)

did you hear byerlys is closing wednesday night for good? might want to check it out too, but from what i hear people are rushing the place so i donno if there will be to much left
