I was wondering if anyone was interested in a massive fish group buy. My friend is an importer and I want to buy a couple of things but he told me that I would have to buy ALOT to get a good deal. Basically just for common and some uncommon fish. I'm not too sure about the details right now but if I have alot of people interested I'm glad to help everyone out! :D

Sure, Ill probably be getting the list tonight. Im pretty sure theres going to be a minimum but Ill check on the details when I get the list.

Yes, I am interested...
I would need a quote to get an idea on the costs, but there is a bunch I want.

Green Stripe Goby
Rainsford Goby
Banded pipe fish
Midas Blenny
Lawnmower Blenny
Purple Tang

Might be interested as well. If you could PM me the list Ill take a look at it and see whats available. I assume this will be a transhipped order?

Who is going to handle acclimating the fish from the group buy? Remember, these fish will have been in a bag for 48+ hours. Who is going to absorb the loss for Dead On Arrival fish? These are all things that need to be worked out before a group buy like this can be successful out.

i would be interested in

I was interested in an Imperator Angel as well but was wondering why you chose the Red Sea? Are the Red Sea one healthier like the Red Sea Regal Angels? More colorful?

I was just thinking about that after my last post. Was wondering what happens if I order 5 fish and all 5 fish were dead on arrival.

i'd be in, but... i've seen how those fish arrive. this may not be the best idea. it may be really good with only a few fish that die, or it may be that nearly half of the fish die. you won't be able to quote a solid price because whatever dies will have to be absorbed into everyone elses cost.

basically my friend imports livestock in general, hes dealt with this exporter before and no, it will not be *****-shipped, it will go straight to the docks here and I think Ill be picking it up. Im also worried about the acclimation process Im thinking about pick up a couple of tanks as quarantine tanks to make sure that most diseases, if any are killed off. The fish are in qurantine tanks for 2 days at the exporter so hopefully that helps alittle. He has a DOA warranty also. His average DOA is basically between 5-10% every shipment. If more than 5% dies, then he will deduct it off the next shipment. So if you think about 100 fish, maybe 5 or 10 die, the money from that will go towards the next shipment. Ill probably be ordering a couple of extras of everything since I know theres alot of last minute buyers. Sorry if I dont make sense right now but Im at work so I had to type this in seriously 15 seconds. lol

That was my first thought when I read the original post and the reason why you never hear about group buys on fish. Just think of the number of sick fish you see at your LFS and consider at least the same percentage at the wholesalers. Some significant losses that I don't think anyone participant is prepared to absorb.

Oh yea, if this fish gb goes through, then Ill try to get us some of his coral. Heres a picture of one them. :D

pic doesn't work.
i thought the purchase was going to happen on his EXISTING livestock that has been alive at his LFS for at least a few weeks? or was that too much to ask for. if its a group buy on fish he has YET to order, then this is a disaster waiting to happen. This includes the corals as well, unless super hardy.

cthetoy: red sea emperors have a more vivid, darker orange tail than normal emperors, thus are more expensive/rare/whatever but unless you're a fish geek, the difference isn't that great :D

I'll be figuring out everything tonight, I just wanted to see if there were actually people interested and it looks like theres quite a few so hopefully everything goes well.

pic works for me.

Last time clowns where ordered from ORA many of them died of disease.

Fish group buy/on shipment is no good. Best if we were getting from a LFS or something.

If the fish are already acclimated and healthy I would be interested. I would however like to pick up at the facility as to minimize stress from extended time in the bag.
