Anyone keeping anemones under LEDs?

I'm curious about people's experience using LED lighting with anemones. I switched my 90 gallon from 2 x 250 watt MH+T5 retrofit to an LED system (DIY fixture modeled on the one with the monster thread in the lighting/equipment board) a couple of months ago. My BTAs (two red, one green) are doing great so far.

I'm in the process of switching out my 40 gallon tank, which currently houses an LTA under a 2x150 MH +T5 fixture. I'll report on the results once the new lights are installed.

Has anyone tried this with a more demanding anemone? If so, please share your experience (and pictures, if you've got 'em). I'm most interested in mags and gigs.

I have an RBTA that has done amazing under my Solaris. I've had it for about 2 years now, and has grown to the size of a dinner plate and has stayed a blood red color. It has given me one baby. I know its not the most light demanding of nems, but it has done very well.

With that said, I wouldn't trust my gigantea under the Solaris.

I also have a RBTA under a Solaris I5 unit, it had grown, in 2 years from 8" to 24" under 250w MH. Now after approx. 3 months under the solaris, (possibly unrelated, cause/effect) the anemone is developing large bubbles, which it has not had for 2 years, and has never split, and did not move, even after lighting upgrade.

Split once. Growing really well. I only feed it once every 2 months.
Very good colors. Never moved since I switch to LED.
However, LED killed 40-50% of my coraline

I've always wanted to try a magnifica if I could find a healthy one. I haven't really been searching, more just keeping my eyes open for a local specimen for a long time. After I changed lights it occurred to me that I hadn't really considered whether I could support it now, even if I found one.

Still, I'd like to know if anyone's already done it.

There is a guy here in the Chicago area that is retroing LED's on his 500ga tank with several carpet nems (don't know exactly which ones). Hopefully I can get him to post up....

I'm very happy with the LEDs I have some ultra maxima clams under them in my growout tank and they are all doing well. I compared a Lux meter to a Par meter and the readings were linear so good for comparison.

My LEDs with T5s are putting out a tad less lux than my 400 watt MH.

I used to burn close to 18 amps now I burn around 4.8 with close to the same light.

I know the AI unit's get a decent amount of love. Despite being pretty pricey (for those who don't know how to do a DIY, like myself), a little 12" unit, which is supposed to put out the same amount of PAR as 250w MH.

The only thing that's really cool, is LED's are completely controllable, in determining the color temp. You could do 100% white during the day for growth, and 100% blue for extended viewing periods.

I have found a lone dimmable MH ballast, and that alone costs around $550, if I remember. Plus probably some special bulb, at which point it's going to cost an arm and a leg for. Not worth it, IMO. Once I saw the price of the ballast alone, I was gasping for air.

20 degree lenses. I think 40 would of been better.

I"m using six per 1000ma buckpuck. Basically the same as thread of the month. here is a link to the LEDs at a cheaper cost.

Their site is not good for sales but if you give them a call they will ask you questions about your reef tank.

150 LEDs and 6 32" T5 with fans are at 4.8 amps.

The MH and VHO drew over 17 amps I'm glad I made the change. After 5 years its free factoring in anual bulb replacement.

I think it just depends on nems, and depth.
I'm keeping BTA's and LTA's.
