Anyone kept flame scallops successful?

Hi all. I thinking about getting a flame scallop. I know they aren't easy but if they are impossible I dont want to contribute to creating a demand for them, only to condemn the poor thing to a slow starvation. I feed phyto feast often and am willing to do other suppliments like rotifer if that would meet its needs. If none of you have ever kept one successfully then I'm not going to try.

I have years back... they are neat little guys but are VERY paranoid... you touch a "tentacle" and they WIG OUT. I didn't target feed or use anything special... I suppose it just filtered whatever is in the water.... could've been dumb luck I suppose.

A little over a year... after a while he would find a crevice and just sit

I've seen the same one at the seahorse for about 8 months. They seem to have him eating pretty well. I've actulaly seem him eat some sort of small shrimp, then get to see the "lighting". Pretty cool I have to say. He was in a tiny cubical, so I don't know if they don't like other creatures or if they were just trying to save space somehow.

Now thats embarrassing. Thats the very scallop I have my eyes on, but didn't realize that its been there that long. After all I only work for the Seahorse, duh? In my defense, I service tanks for them and have only run in for supplies real quick so haven't looked at their reef stuff for awhile.

Well after researching and reading other forums I think I'm gonna pass on the flame scallop. It seems a year old animal is considered a success in captivity and I just hate to do that. I have a coral beauty which can be a picker and is why I haven't gotten a clam, but it might harrass a scallop too.

The flame scallop is a "pretty" invert that should have never ended up in private tanks. I too made the mistake of buying one when I started in this hobby because it looked cool, and the guy at the LFS told me they were hardy. Mine starved to death in only a month or two.

I wouldnt worry about your coral beauty picking at a clam. I know alot of centropyge angels get a bad rap for picking at clams. I have 3 angels in my 120 & have 3 clams & dont have any issues whats so ever. I was up at a conference & listened to John Coppolino talk about angels. One of the centropyge angels he said that was pretty consistant at causing havoc was mostly the lemonpeel, half black, and eibili.
