The only way to sex them short of dissecting one is to allow them to spawn. H. crispa will easily spawn if it is given good conditions and fed very well. I recommend every other day heavy feedings with a whole fish (as in all the parts, not necessarily 'whole'). I have had good luck with silversides.

ok, so it takes two to tango. I hope I get lucky w/a male and female. I wonder if they can change sex like the clownfish do??? I know this is a grey area and there isn't that much info avail....thx for the reply.

So u feed every other day? I've been feeding mine a half a silverside a night and it's gulping them right down and not expelling much waste..... Hope im not over feeding it but i'm sure it's hungry as ive only had it 2 weeks from the lfs. Nice tan color with purple tips..not bleached. In good shape when i got it....10 inches across.

Sounds good. I prefer every other night because it allow for digestion before more food is offered. No, these anemones don't change sex--they are one particular sex for the entirety of their lives. In fact, all the 'host' anemones we keep are dioecious.
