Anyone like boiled crawfish?

I'm asking because its getting that time for the season to be here. Last St. Patrick's Day, I went with the wife and some friends to visit some other friends down in Baton Rouge. 12 of us finished off an 8 gallon keg of Abita Andy Gator and about 120lbs of crawfish that we got at Tony's Seafood Market down there. I've cooked them before, but this time some guy cooked them "St. Charles style" and they were the best I've ever had. There was a lot of head sucking going on for sure! :P Personally, I love the little mud bugs. :)

Depending on how many people actually like to eat them... maybe we can get some flown in and party down one Saturday this spring. :) I know I can get some Andy Gator from Mellow Mushroom too. :) I'd definitely consider hosting a party of this sort.

Seriously let me know in this thread if you like'em. I'll make sure we cook and do it right, as I have a couple of friends native of that area and I'm actually native to the MS Gulf Coast as well. :)

I think Brian and I would be down for a shindig. I've never had crawfish before but I've really yet to meet a crustacean I didn't enjoy snacking on.

If all else fails, drink beer, right? :) We could probably bring along some homebrew as long as we have enough of a heads up...

Its best to get them flown in fresh and still alive directly from Louisiana. I'm pretty sure I'll be going St. Patrick's Day weekend down there for another gathering, so the spices will be fresh on my mind. :)

Whats funny is that there really aren't many people up here that like or have tried them. Down there, you're a wierd-o if you don't adore them. Seriously though they really are some good eats. I hope there are at least 6-8 people here that can really put them away... if so, thats enough to get ~100# and have a party IMO. :) Because if you eat crawfish... I know you can put away the beer too! :)

i'm all for partyin', the beer, and Jim Beam, but the crawfish....

I'll have to pass. I'll leave that to the rest. I've never tried it though. I have no problem with it, it's just if it looks like an animal....I can't eat it. Same thing with shrimp....

I lived in Lafayette, La for several years. We would go to the crawfish pond and buy them from the owner off the mud boat. Fresh crawfish is good stuff.

If you are going to do that you might go ahead and make a good ol cajon boil Get it during a time I take a trip to destin and can get the stuff real fresh.

Sounds like bait to me. :) Seriously when I was younger I used to catch crawdads (what we call them here) and use them to catch fish out of the creek. That was what my tank was stocked with mostly.

we used them for bait up north too but you didn't want to eat them as the mud creak they lived in was runoff from farms and storm drains so not to healthy

You can't beat sitting around a bucket full of steamed clams with a beer and a cup of melted butter, but crawfish probably come in a close second. Sign me up.

Me too never one to turn down crawfish and beer. LOL. My wife works for Ingram barge and every spring they have a big company crawfish boil all you can eat and drink.

My good freinds behind me moved up here after Katrina and have a huge crawfish boil every year. I must say the head suck thing seemed kinda gross to me so I just stuck with the shrimpy looking parts :) She said I was wasting the best part!
They have huge special boiling pots/seasoning and scrap containers they pull out for the big party. I must say those Louisianans take eating crawdaddys very seriously! Her family brought in a few hundred pounds fresh last spring so maybe you all could schedual your party the weekend she has hers and they can bring them with them to save shipping.
