I dropped by PTF today to pick up a choco startfish and saw this beauty in one of the smaller tanks:

It has a lot more gold than the typical goldflake angels I see online, so I think it's pretty rare. First time I saw it in person so I was quite excited. I didn't ask for price but it looks expensive. :D

I'm going to say at least 5 inches. It looked pretty healthy and was poking around the rocks looking for food. I never had them so hopefully someone can chime in about being reef safe.

Hey Kreeger1,

What differentiates the flag fin from the gold flake? From what I see the flag fin is solid gold color with no black spots around the fins, while the gold flake has some black spots. So what makes you think it's a flag fin?

I just asked the lfs guy and he said it was listed as goldflake angel for 4 bills. pretty expensive hopefully someone can id it correctly.

Here's a pic of the back fins in black

I'm positive it's not a flag fin. They have solid yellow dorsal fins.

looks like a flagfin to me as well. Goldflakes are gold, flagfins are yellow. your pics look yellow. Also, goldflakes have no white anywhere on them and definitely not in the anal fin area where your pic does. Flagfins have white in the anal fin area. But what definitely seals it is the black mark over the head between the head and dorsal fin. That is a flagfin angel and they are not an easy fish to acclimate. They are mostly sponge eaters and don't adapt real easy to prepared foods. I'm sure there are exceptions to that but....
Anyway, its a flagfin IMO and if PTF is telling you its a goldflake @ $400 then I'd personally consider that sketchy or there employees definitely need to become more qualified on there fish identification

honestly whatever kind of fish it is if its from PTF their fish dont have a very good survival rate...plus when it comes to prices on fish theyre always different on who you ask ..when he does his sunday sales the fish are so stressed from his early morning run to the wholeseller that they die within a week .. maybe some people have good luck with his fish but every one that my buddies and i have bought die.. sorry if im bad mouthing anyone that prefers this shop i just dont see him as big on care of fish he sells

The pic looks just like my flagfin less the black on the tail and top fin. ALso the black at the bottom fin along with the purple lipstick is part of the flagfin trademark.

Last time i was at PTF i've seen the best looking angel and ask the working what kind of fish it was and he told me Goldflake Angel and price was $299.00. It look nothing like the pic.
