Anyone ordered dry rock from these guys?

I read that as pressure washed instead of a sanitizing treatment likẻ pressure cleaned via an autoclave for example. But I don't think you want to do that anyway. Essentially just sprayed with a strong blast of water and they hype it up a bit.

If it was me I would still dump it in a bucket of saltwater, let sit a few days, and then test the water.

I am not sure I agree with their facts about rock having a zillion holes in it. They say it is a negative while I thought it was a positive for beneficial bacteria.

I would just hose it down myself. It's dry rock so there is no curing needed, but it could be very dusty or dirty if it's been in the ground. They seem to be pretty up front about the fact that you could just hose it down yourself, so that seems pretty fair. One thing I would wonder, since it's sold by the pound: is the washed stuff weighed pre-washing, or after? If it's weighed after it's wet it's going to weigh more and you will get less per pound, compared to the dry stuff.

I agree their logic about holes in the rock goes against the conventional wisdom of the hobby and the whole point of live rock.

The dry rock could still leach 'something', so curing/testing is a good idea...
The difference in weight between wet and dry rock is not worth worrying about.

I like reefcleaners.org for dry rock. Their rock is cleaned of dust like this one, and also cured of phosphate that can leach out later. They also consider requests for shapes (I chatted with John a little and wound up with just the mix I wanted of big chunks, shelves, and small pieces). Plus they have a great reputation, lots of happy customers on the forums after years in the biz.

They charge $2 a pound, but shipping is free so it may wind up close in price or even cheaper.
