Glasscages will be doing a delivery run to OKC on 9/23.

Is anyone ordering a tank from them. I was thinking of doing so.

Paul.

I'm not ordering a tank but wow they have good prices. Has anyone ordered from them in the past and how was the quality?

I've seen many Glass Cages tank, and from what I've seen, I would order from them if I had the chance. Poke75 has a tank from them that is really nice. I won't put words in his mouth about Pros and Cons about their tanks, but I would venture to guess that it's mainly Pros. ;)

i have seen some with leaks, but for the most part they are decent tanks.

Paul.

Acrylic or glass? Was it a sloppy job, or something that was accidently overlooked? I hate to say it, but I would expect this from a custom builder. Manufacturers get the chance to leak test all tanks before they go out. Poor GlassCages has TONS of orders all the time and it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't have the time to fill a tank only to drain it. It's an option that I'm willing to live with. Luckily, there are enough people here in COMAS that if you did get a bum tank, that we can help you fix it

Glass, due to bubbles in the seam.

I have yet to see a GC that didnt need a splash or two of silicon cleaning off, but that takes all of a few minutes to perform.

I like their tanks.

I have a love/hate relationship with the eurobracing. I love that there isn't a brace or trim piece, but it makes it difficult to scrape towards the top of the tank. But that's just a mediocre point.

This thread makes me mentally drool over dreams of either my 180g tank or a 240g square tank (4x4x2). Drool Drool Drool...

(ok, back to work)

i have to say if i ordered a tank from them, i would probably have it drilled, but i would make my own overflow. I think the overflows they put in are horrible looking. Just about 20 bucks and a trip to regal plastics and you can make a nice overflow.

Travis, the euro bracing is a pain when it comes to scraping. I hate them, but they are important. I think my favorite tanks, are the european style glast tanks with no trim, and no bracing. I think those are very clean looking. In fact i was just reading a thread on a deltec tank. and the tanks is awesome looking. Too bad it probably cost 5g's because it says Deltec on the side

I have a 140 gal cube tank from Glass cages. It is 3' x 3' and 2' tall. I had a overflow put it and it did cost more to have an over flow put in.

As far as the quality, it is okay. There are a couple of places where they smudged the silicon a little, but the most part it looks fairly nice.

What kind of shipping do you have to pay when they make a group delivery?

How does pick up work? Is there a place they typically deliver to and how long do you have to pick it up? I asked Glasscages.com and I was told "somewhere along I-40" would be the delivery location. That covers quite a bit of area.

Do they stand behind their product??? Has anyone out in RC land had issues and had them settled by the manufacturer? The last thing I'm going to do is spend $$$ on a product I have to fix with additional silicon. IMO not worth the headache. I'd rather pay more for a "good" product. Due to the current issues we are having with Oceanic I am researched alternatives. To be honest love the prices...can't say I have heard enough good about the company and craftmanship.

I have a custom 95g from them.

I like it just fine.

Pros:
Price
Delivery
1 yr warrenty
Eurobracing
Get them custom made with overflows anywhere and holes anywhere.
You can get starfire glass also if you want (extra $$)
They use the "heavy duty" oversized bulkheads (very nice!!)

Cons:
EuroBracing (cleaning the top of the sides)
Overflow cover slots were too narrow (a router will fix it)
Had to scrape a little silicone from the outside glass (no big deal)

Just my $.02

"What kind of shipping do you have to pay when they make a group delivery?"

I paid $80 for the shipping for my 140, and it weighs probably 300lbs.

"How does pick up work?"

I picked it up east of the Bass Pro shops near 140. They call you the week they are going to make the delivery, and then they give you a call about 1hr before they get here.

I haven't had to add any extra silicon to my tank. It has been fairly nice for the money. They are also supposed to stand behind their product as well. You might just give them a call and ask them about their warranty.

They did recommend that when I built my stand that I put 1" of styrofoam under the tank so that it doesn't cause the tank to break. I used a piece of 1" pink foam insulation between the plywood on the top of my stand and the tank.

Cool stuff. I have always thought that adding styrofoam was a good idea. Should slightly reduce heat loss in a power outage. But that's another thread...
